Colorado Activities: Memorial Park in Arvada, Colorado

by itchy fish

When I moved to Arvada, Memorial Park instantly became one of my favorite parks. Being a mother with two boys 13 years apart, this park provided a rustic atmosphere and activities that suited all of us in a variety of different ways. Memorial park has 16 acres along Ralston Creek with a variety of activities. When your at Memorial Park, you can walk down to the creek and skim rocks for fun. This park can make you feel like you are out of the city.

Memorial Park – 8001 West 59th Ave, Arvada, Co. 80003
To get to Memorial Park take I-70 to Wadsworth Blvd going North, head West on Ralston (58th) and make a right on Allison. Go pass the Arvada Police Station and the Arvada Post Office.

Disc Golf Course

Calling all frolfers, Memorial Park has an 18 hole disc course that is a tournament favorite. There are plenty of challenges, because there are plenty of hazards. There are a lot of trees and a creek that runs through most of the course. Don’t be surprised if you need to take off your shoes to wade through the creek to rescue your disc. The tee-boxes are all natural and some run off the paved paths.

Skateboard Park

Currently the only skateboard park in Arvada, this skate park include two half pipes, a box with a mini rail, a pyramid and a wall. Locals rank it a 6 to 7 out of 10. If your not a skater, you can still enjoy watching the locals do tricks like carving the walls and catching some big air.

Ralston Creek Trail

Ralston Creek Trail is the most complete Arvada trail and passes through Memorial Park. Along the way, trail users will meet walkers, bikers, joggers, dog walkers, roller-bladders and skateboarders. The Ralston Creek Trail covers everything from Arvada’s historical beginnings to the hilly west end around Arvada Reservoir. When using the trail in Memorial Park it is important to remember to watch out for flying discs. The trail whines around the park through the disc course.

Basketball Courts

Let’s play some hoops. Memorial Park has two basketball courts to get your game on. The basketball courts are in good condition and will attract players year round for a game of one on one or a half court game. Everyone can get in on the action here. This is where I taught my little guy to play the game of horse.

Playground

The playground area is surrounded by grassy hills and trees making it feel breezy and inviting. Currently the playground is close due to renovations, but I went to look at it and it has the most fabulous improvement. I would have to say it will be the best playground in Arvada. Take a peek by clicking on the slide show at the end of the article.

Picnic Area

All I can say about the picnic area is WOW. Nestled up close to the playground, the picnic area is beautifully landscaped with trees and bushes that take your breath away. The picnic area at Memorial Park includes a pavilion, BBQ pits and several other picnic tables on grassy hills surrounded by trees. The play ground being incorporated in the picnic area makes it so easy to watch the little ones while grill up some hot dogs and hamburgers. There is an open grass area close to the picnic area that is great for volleyball, football or soccer.

Memorial Park in Arvada is a great place to spend the day with the family for fun and plenty of recreation.
