On June 9th, CMT held their annual awards ceremony. Many of today’s biggest names showed up to perform their newest hits. Singers such as Tim McGraw, Toby Keith and the Zac Brown Band were just a few that took center stage.
From the upcoming movie, Adulthood, actors Adam Sandler, David Spade, Kevin James and Chris Rock made an appearance and David Spade helped Kid Rock with an introdutcion of a performance.
Kenan Thompson was on hand, to be Reba for a night. Dressed in a sea green evening gown, Thompson walked on stage and gave his version of Consider Me Gone, but was stopped mid-song by the real Reba. The two gave a cute comedy skit, with Reba putting Thompson in his place.
Carrie Underwood was the night’s big winner. She took home the highest award, Video of the Year, for Cowboy Casanova.According to CMT.com, Underwood had this to say, “Awesome fans. Awesome, amazing, awesome.”
Underwood also won the coveted Performance of the Year award for her “Invitation Only” performance of Temporary Home. Underwood, “This song means so much to me-Thank you, all the fan club members who wehre there for invitation only. You guys are awesome.”
The Male Video of the Year went to Keith Urban for ‘Til Summer Comes Around. Urban said, “Everybody who voted at home and around the place, thank you very much”, upon accepting his fan based award.
Miranda Lambert walked away with the Female Video of the Year. White Liar was chosen, and Lambert thanked her fans and said that hopefully her next wedding doesn’t end like the one on that video. On May 9th, Lambert’s boyfriend of five years, Blake Shelton asked for her hand in marriage.
Lady Antebellum took home the Group Video of the Year award. Charles Kelley spoke on behalf of the trio. “Love you fans. Thank you very much.”
The announcement for Duo Video of the Year caught the winners by surprise. Indian Summer, by Brooks and Dunn received the honor, and Kix Brooks explains about Ronnie Dunn’s absence. “We were not expecting this so much that Mr. Dunn has gone to the restroom–in Santa Fe, N.M.” The Duo is wrapping up the final farewell tour.
No surprise in regards to the winner of the Collaborative Video. Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins won for their joining together on Hillbilly Bone. Shelton accepted the award and had this to say, “Thanks to the fans for voting for us. Thanks to Trace Adkins for being the biggest bad-ass in country music.”
Luke Bryan won the USA Weekend Breakthrough video for Do I. “Thank you so much, fans, for changing my life. Y’all are doing it every day.”, Luke Bryan.
I was surprised that Brad Paisley was shut out of the awards. I liked him for Male Video of the Year. Guess I can’t complain though, as I didn’t vote.
