The Clinique Acne Solutions Cleansing Bar for Face and Body is a part of the Clinique Acne Solutions line, as a cleanser claiming to target breakouts while cleansing the skin. It is used as Step 1 in the Clinique Acne Solutions Skincare system.
The actual bar is plain in appearance. It is white and has little to no fragrance. This is great for people who are easily affected by heavy fragrances used in most beauty products. The bar has a normal ‘dome’ soap shape and fits easily in the hand, though it is a large soap bar, weighing in at 5.2 ounces. It comes in a light blue Clinique soap case so you can easily store your bar away between washings.
The overall use of the bar is simple. You wet your face lather the bar and use it to cleanse your face. The bar has a very rich foamy lather that feels more like a cream. It is definitely not like your typical bar soap. The foam removes make up well and feels soothing to your skin, unlike some soaps that have a detergent feel to their foam. While washing your face you don’t get a ‘drying feeling’ at all, the foam even feels somewhat moisturizing. After thoroughly cleansing my face, I pat it dry with a microfiber towel. It is now when you see the real magic of this bar cleanser, the face is calm and moisturized and does not have the typical ‘shine’ you get with many bar cleanser. My breakouts look calm and not red and inflamed like some cleansers can leave them looking. I even find with this cleanser, I can skip the toner and go straight to my moisturizer.
One of the best things about this cleanser is that it is very economical. While the initial bar runs from $13-$15, the bar roughly lasts for about three to four months with daily use. The little case they provide is well worth the money too. It’s very durable and makes the bar great for travel because you don’t have to worry about it spilling or leaking. Another great thing about this cleanser is that it can also be used for the body and is great for those who might have acne on their back and chest. It’s gentle on both the face and body, but doesn’t replace the ‘clean’ feeling you should get with your cleanser. The main acne fighting ingredient in the bar is encapsulated salicylic acid. While some salicylic acid based products can be drying over time, this cleanser has yet to prove that. I have been using it twice daily over the last six months and it has yet to dry out my sensitive combination skin. But, like with most acne products, be sure to apply sunscreen before sun exposure to prevent unnecessary dryness.
The only downfall to this product is it’s ability to get ‘soggy’ because it is a bar soap. If you don’t allow it to dry before storing it in the case, the bar will stay to moist and leave soap deposits in the case. You should also keep the case dry and cleaned out regularly in addition to keeping the bar dry.
Overall, Clinique Acne Solutions Cleansing Bar is a great solution for those looking for a gentle cleanser that can help prevent and clear mild breakouts.
