Clay Aiken’s new album Tried and True was just released on June 1st. Clay Aiken was the runner up on season 2 of American Idol and one who many thought should have won. He is also one of my favoite all time contestants. Only 4 Idol contestants have ever given me goose bumps and he was one of them.
The new album is an album full of classic songs and includes mostly songs from the 50’s and 60’s which Aiken says he grew up listening to. These are songs that are perfect for Clay’s voice and Clay’s style.
I saw him on The View yesterday promoting the album and sang Unchained Melody. He took some liberties with the arrangement but it was done nicely and ended very strong.
Clay features three other performers on his album including: David Sanborn, Linda Eder, and Vince Gill.
The CD features 13 different tracks of all Classic songs:
Can’t Take My Eyes off of You
What Kind of Fool Am I? Featuring David Sanborn
It’s Only Make Believe
Mack the Knife
Crying (Duet with Linda Eder)
There’s A Kind of Hush
Moon River (Featuring Vince Gill)
Who’s Sorry Now
Breaking Up Is Hard To Do
This is actually Clay’s 5th studio album. His first CD after Idol was Measure of a Man which was released in 2003. Followed by A Thousand Different Ways in 2006, which was followed by a Christmas Album in 2006 followed by another Christmas album called Merry Christmas with Love in 2009.
Clay also appeared on the 2007 release of a CD called Crooners Christmas. There was also a Playlist CD featuring the Best of Clay Aiken.
Aiken mentioned during his interview on The View that he does not watch Idol. He said that it makes him nervous to watch and he gets too invested in it, and that it makes him sad that he is not doing it anymore. Aiken also did not appear on American Idol during the season finale this year (2010) where many of the former Idol contestants from all of the past seasons made an appearance. He did not mention why he did not appear.
Clay will also begin late June of this year (2010). He will be doing a few solo performances here and there but most of the shows will feature himself and former cast mate and American Idol Season 2 winner Rueban Studdard. I wish Clay much success with his new CD and I applaud him for doing what he enjoys doing. I think it is always nice to hear classic songs especially if they are sung by someone with as beatuful of a voice as Clay has.
