From what I see on the news, Chicago, Detroit & New Orleans is in bad shape. The drug and gun crimes are out of control, and no one seems to be doing anything about it. I once watched an episode of 48 Hours when they talked about an unsolved murder of a young man and woman in New Orleans. They stated that the crime rate had increased since Hurricane Katrina, and the majority of the murders were unsolved.
I realized that New Orleans has a black mayor, and then I asked myself, “Doesn’t he care? Why isn’t he doing anything about this?” I heard similar stories about Detroit and south Chicago. Crimes happening all over the place, poor law enforcement, low employment rates, and black elected officials running the cities.
Why aren’t these black officials doing anything to help their own people? Obviously the voters had some kind of faith in them, that’s why they got elected. But these officials keep proving that they somehow aren’t capable of taking care of the cities they were elected to take care of.
Chicago has been accused of having corrupted officials by conservative republicans. I felt as though the republicans were just saying that because the citizens of Chicago seemed to lean toward democratic candidates. But then, I looked at the condition of the city, and the crimes that are reported, and I can’t help but to feel that maybe these republicans are right.
What bothers me even more than the corrupted officials, are that the citizens of the cities keep electing and re-electing these kinds of politicians. Is having black leadership so important to the black community, that we’re willing to elect corrupted leaders just simply because they’re our color? This is ridiculous.
The problem with these cities is that they have poor leaders running the show. I don’t think the people living in the city are as bad as the people running the city. Crimes are happening and are going unsolved because no one is enforcing the law! You can have poor law enforcement in any city, and the city will go wild. What keeps this country in order is that we have rules to follow. These cities look as if they have no rules.
They are being led by people who don’t care about them. These officials are inactive and uninvolved with the people of the city. If they cared about their people, they would try harder to improve things.
And what’s with the voters? Has it ever crossed their mind that they need to elect someone else, even if they are of another color– or even of another political party? Republicans have always been known to be tough on crime– sometimes unfairly tough. If the voters put a white republican as their leader, how many crimes do you think will go unsolved?
I’m not saying that they need to elect someone white, I’m not saying that they need to elect a republican, I’m just saying they need to elect someone better if they care anything about themselves and their city.
