I was typing articles at the Hartford, Connecticut coffee house / bar that I patronize regularly earlier today and one of the waitresses asked me if I wanted to try a new type of Raisinets candy. She knows that I write many product reviews and thought that these candies would be a good subject matter for such an article. The variety of Raisinets that she was referring to are Nestle Cherry Raisinets. Since I enjoy eating regular – style Raisinets, as well as Cranberry Raisinets, I was eager to sample this new variety.
I must say, I’m very glad that I had the opportunity to try these delightful dark chocolate – covered cherries. Made with whole, dried cherries, these candies are almost elegant, yet they are reasonably – priced. I am so impressed with these tasty candies, that I have decided to write a product review of them. Presented here, as a service to the consumer at large, is one food writer’s product review of Nestle Cherry Raisinets.
The only package size of Nestle Cherry Raisinets that I have seen or can find information on is the four ounce bag. I am uncertain of the exact number of serings in the bag, but it does hold lots of these delicious dark chocolate – covered treats. In physical size, the Nestle Cherry Raisinets are close in size to regular Raisinets, but I think that they are perhaps a little bit bigger.
Nestle Cherry Raisinets contain 200 calories per serving. This delicious product also contains 5 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams trans fat, 8 grams total fat, 0 mg of cholesterol, 5 mg of sodium, 0 mg of potassium, 32 grams total carbohydrates, 2 grams of dietary fiber and 1 gram of protein per serving.
The regular retail price charged for one four ounce bag of Nestle Cherry Raisinets at Hartford, Connecticut area pharmacies and supermarkets is approximately $3.29. This price is roughly the same as that of similarly – sized packages of regular – style Raisinets. At first, I thought that this price seemed high, but after eating these dark chocolate – covered cherries, I think that this price is reasonable.
Taste / Flavor
The flavor offered by Nestle Cherry Raisinets is delightful and slightly decadent. Made with whole, dried cherries and luscious dark chocolate, these treats almost seem like exquisite, high – priced candies that would be sold in gourmet chocolate shops. To me, these chocolate covered cherries do not taste as sweet as regular – style Raisinets or Cranberry Raisinets. The dark chocolate and the cherries interact well with each other, creating a taste sensation that is very satisfying. Also, I find that I like the flavor of Nestle Cherry Raisinets more than the flavor of most varieties of traditional – style milk chocolate covered cherries.
The texture of Nestle Cherry Raisinets is unique and interesting. The cherries are real, dried cherries that have a nice sense of juicy bite to them. Just the right amount of dark chocolate coats the cherries, so you can still taste both the fruit and the chocolate.
These candies are chewy, but still nice and soft. Like regular – style Raisinets, the cherry variety is composed of various – sized and shaped pieces that sort of squeeze when they are bitten into. I thought it was fun to eat Nestle Cherry Raisinets, but I made sure that I brushed my teeth shortly after eating them.
Nestle Cherry Raisinets are packaged in a lightweight, stand – up bag. The bag is attractively – designed with a primarily purple and yellow label that features an illustration of cherries dropping into a pool of melted chocolate.
The package is easy to open and it is also re – sealable. The rear label also lists all pertinent ingredient and nutritional information.
These dark chocolate – covered cherries are almost elegant in make – up and presentation. Normally, chocolate covered cherries are special occasion treats for many people, but Nestle Cherry Raisinets are accessible, reasonably – priced treats that can be enjoyed virtually anywhere, at any time.
Since each 1/4 cup serving of Nestle Cherry Raisinets contains a half – serving of fruit, you can almost rationalize eating these candies. I commend Nestle for introducing this product, which seems like a very good idea. Nestle Cherry Raisinets are a highly recommended item by this food writer.
