The live season finale of Celebrity Apprentice continued last week’s Snapple challenge. Project Mangers Bret Michaels and Holly Robinson Peete unveiled their ads and made a presentation at a launch event. The cast, along with Bill Rancic and Joan Rivers, reunited live at Skirball Center in New York City as Donald Trump chose the winner for season nine of Celebrity Apprentice.
Without Cyndi Lauper or Rod Blagojevich, the show loses some of the funnier moments, but leave it to Bret to fill the void. After misplacing his commercial script, Bret explained that everything was “discombooberated.” Was it exhaustion or is “discombooberated” a real word in the world of Bret Michaels?
The Snapple Commercials
Hopefully, Holly’s Snapple commercial will be misplaced because there are already way too many annoying TV commercials. Her ad was true to the Snapple tradition, but the fast talking and shrill voice was too much to handle.
Bret’s commercial went beyond the Snapple formula and incorporated the in-your-face style of Slim Jim and Orbit gum commercials.
Celebrity Castaways Return
The contenders returned for the finale. Many of the celebrities gave speeches reminiscent of Miss America discussing world peace. Most appeared genuine, but Maria Kanellis seemed to be pleading with potential fans. She must have realized the potential cost of asserting too much divatude in previous episodes and her final boardroom. She was very contrite, expressing gratitude for being on the show and apologized for complaining about Curtis Stone’s memorable trip to the bathroom.
Wishes Come True: John Paul Attends Celebrity Apprentice Finale
Make A Wish recipient John Paul wished to meet Donald Trump. His dream came true when he attended the live finale. John Paul briefly appeared on the show and bears a striking resemblance to Trump. (Perhaps it is his hairstyle.)
Joan Rivers and Bill Rancic Pick Celebrity Apprentice Winner
As the reigning Celebrity Apprentice, Trump asked for Joan’s opinion. She explained the situation as being a choice of following the head or the heart. Holly had the business acumen while Bret exhibited drive and dedication by overcoming his illnesses to attend the finale. This incorrect categorization devalues his work performance. Bill Rancic continued this characterization, but favored Holly’s performance and chose her as the winner.
While Bret’s ongoing recovery is a testament to his determination, it has nothing to do with his performance on Celebrity Apprentice. The finale’s extensive discussion of his health issues was uncharacteristic of Trump. Everyone except Bret played a sympathy card in some form. (Holly suddenly decided to mention her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer during filming.) Although Trump’s decisions often seem production driven, it was truly disappointing to see him indulge this argument.
Holly Robinson Peete and Bret Michaels Appear on Celebrity Apprentice Finale
The finalists, Holly and Bret, did not appear on stage until it was time for the final decision. Holly made a glamorous appearance and hugged many of her former teammates as she approached the table. Bret walked across the stage with a bit of a limp. The camera changed focus, making it difficult to assess the severity of his impairment. Boisterous audience members held up handmade signs bearing well wishes for Bret. His parents were also in the audience and his father wore a bold red bandana on his head.
Overall, he looked like his usual self and spoke normally with no sign of slurring.
Bret Michaels Wins Celebrity Apprentice
Bret won the hard-earned title Celebrity Apprentice, but Snapple generously donated $250,000 to both finalists’ charities. It will be interesting to see if Holly or others attribute his win to his illness instead of his performance.
