My mother has been a diabetic for over 30 years. My grandmother passed away in 1993 from a simple sore that developed from a tiny cut on her leg. The proper wound care protocols did not work. She died after the complexity of having her foot amputated. Diabetic patients have compromised immune systems. Wounds are very slow to heal. I have made it part of my life’s mission to research and discover what diabetes really is and how to heal diabetes.
Most doctors I have consulted with never ask the question. How do we heal diabetes? How do we help a patient’s body get to a state where they can step down and off of dangerous diabetic medications and insulin? Most doctors laugh when you ask this question. They conservatively endorse that once you are on medication for diabetes, you are on it for life.
My research has found that this is not necessarily true in most cases. Nurses and Dietitians know very little about educating patients about having a proper diet to heal your body from diabetes. The diabetic diet protocol keeps patients diabetic. The diabetic diet is a spin off of the food pyramid diet where it reduces each category of food per meal. The food pyramid diet has no rhyme or reason to it. It simply incorporates all of the known food groups into labeled categories based upon the foods having similar traits in common. The diet endorses the use of wheat and whole grains. Research shows that our bodies create a toxin in the gastro-intestinal tract from high use of wheat, whey, and whole grain. It creates such health problems that most people have developed “gluten- intolerance” or have Celiac disease. This is when digestive systems are in such bad shape from eating wheat containing products that produces a byproduct or myco-toxin that become dangerous to their health. As a result ,they are placed on a gluten-free diet. If you have seen food packages labeled Gluten Free, this is the reason why. The food pyramid also recommends dairy products.
We are the only species who drinks the milk of another animal. The purpose of cow’s milk is to turn a baby calf into a hefty two thousand pound animal in a year. Just imagine what milk does to our bodies if it’s primary use is to fatten a calf. The traditional diabetic diet lends absolutely no help to improving the condition of a diabetic patient. Once you are on diabetic medication it is found that over time eventually you will be on insulin. Insulin actually causes people to gain more weight because it creates an environment in the body that influences the production of more fat cells.
Let us first take a look at what causes diabetes. Medical textbooks state that it is caused from a decline of the production of insulin. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that aids in breaking down carbohydrates in the body. My research shows that this definition is the end result. What causes the production of insulin to decline? Some say genetics, some say diet. I have found that your genetics can weaken your disposition to diabetes but it does not define that you cannot improve your condition. A diet high in fats, sugars, breads, and starches can elevate your blood sugar.
But how? Back in the 1800’s, the average person only consumed 25mg of sugar per day. Most foods were eaten in its most natural state. Nowadays, with processed foods, microwave dinners and convenience dine-out the average person consumes over 100mg of sugar per day. That is four times as much as we did long ago. People who are obese have been calculated to consume as much as 500mg per day of sugar or more.
My research has shown that consuming more than 100mg of sugar per day, creates an environment in the body which influences a high Ph balance. Having a high Ph balance means that your body is highly acidic.
When you body is highly acidic this manifests in many illnesses including urinary tract infections, rashes, severe itching, burning stinging urination, sensitivity to muscle and joint pain.
Having a high Ph balance or what I call having a acid body causes your internal cells to die off rapidly. When you eat and your body contains glucose, which is actually fuel for our cells. Your dead cells cannot absorb glucose and it is left to linger in the blood stream. As a result you have a high blood sugar. In conclusion, having diabetes means that your body contains more dead than living cells.
Diabetic skin is dry, itchy and scaling. If you have ever seen diabetic feet, which can be dark or contain dark patches and are off-color, you are seeing first hand dead cells.
I am in the process of writing a series of articles on how to heal your body from diabetes by using natural methods to help you over time step down from your medication. I do not advise anyone completely going off their medication at the start. The end goal is to demonstrate to your physician that you are following a healthy regimen and you are stepping down little by little and still keeping your blood sugars within normal range. It is ideal to maintain a Hemoglobin A1c blood result between the ranges of 6-7 no higher than 7. There are some endocrinologists that prefer the hemoglobin level to be closer to 5. There are several things you can do to normalize your blood sugar levels by eating the proper foods.
There are also natural vitamins and supplements you can take, but again, remember I said above that diabetics have mostly dead cells internally. Most diabetics who take vitamins cannot properly absorb them to go anywhere. Diabetics absorb less nutrition and maintain more cellular toxicity. The first step is to work on healing your body by normalizing the Ph balance to reduce the acid environment in the body. This will create an internal environment that fosters healthy cells.
Step One – Lemon and Water
Drinking lemon with a squeeze of a fresh lemon wedge in your water in between meals can help normalize the Ph balance. Dr. Michelle Schoffro Cook, author of “The Ultimate Ph Solution”, advises on how powerful a medicine food alone can be.
The key here is drinking in between the meal. If you drink water during a meal it rinses away the digestive acids necessary to breaking down your food. As a result you get indigestion, acid upset, heartburn etc.. Water consumed with a wedge of lemon in between a meal does not interfere with the food digestion sequence and it can be more readily absorbed and utilized by the body for internal flushing out and hydration.
Most diabetics are dehydrated. If you look at the symptoms of diabetes, a landmark symptom is increased thirst. Lemon converts water into a beverage that helps your body become more alkaline. Our blood is mostly alkaline and therefore our body heals faster and thrives when it is alkaline. Having lemon and water daily, in between meals, can neutralize some of the harmful effects of the acids in your daily diet.
