You have probably all heard of this game at some point in time in the last few months for the PS3. If you haven’t already picked the game up at your local store then I am sure you are wondering what all the talk is about. The reviews have been published and even the haters have come out to have their say. This piece will let you know what you are missing from game play experience and why you really want to pick this game up.
I can understand why you are hesitating. Is it really worth it? Do I want to get sucked into this world that I have seen my friends get sucked in and either return not liking the game at all or becoming consumed for hours with online or campaign play a night.
First of all and I personally think most importantly is the campaign. A game with a horrendous story line is not worth it, but this game has a good story line and is exciting enough for one to go back and play more than once. You are no longer playing as Soap as you did Call of Duty 4, but you have equally as good characters to play as. One character is “Roach”, who joins Soap in missions outside the US and you also play has Ramirez who is fighting on US soil when the Russians invade. The storyline takes you from the urban environment of the US to various parts of Russia and the Middle East. You also play a mission in which you are a terrorist and to put it lightly massacre Russian civilians, which I will say you have the option to skip if you are offended by the idea, but I feel it only adds to the game and story line. The story features all the important factors to make a good and entertaining story: fighting, things blowing up, traitors, and the one man hero who finishes off the bad guy… or so it is thought. The story ends without actually ending, which hopefully will be continued into the next game.
Now on to what most of you probably wanted to hear about… the online multiplayer game play. As you probably know if you own a ps3 it is free to play online, which has its down sides, but honestly I don’t have many problems with this game. There is the occasional lag time and glitches, which are annoying but they honestly happen so little that I rarely ever have a problem. They just recently released a map pack, which has rejuvenated play time. Even without the map pack the online play is great. There is variety of original maps that allow for both close combat and distance kills. I enjoy Scrap yard the most because of the closeness, but still some sniper spots. There is also places like wasteland, which is perfect for anyone who has perfected there sniper skills, but at the same time there are areas for some close combat. The camping is always annoying, but it is going to happen and all the maps allow for it, but I find they also make it easy for an “anti-camper” to run through and just rack up the kills clearing out the campers.
The weapons are all good to use and as long as you know what you are doing you can easily win with any of them. I personally enjoy using the ACR with an ACOG scope because I find it easiest to kill with. When you first start off you will have the stock classes, but as you level up you will be allowed to create your own and add whatever you have available to help you to win.
Whether you are the occasional gamer or a more hardcore gamer I think you can find enjoyment in this game. The campaign story is a lot of fun and challenging enough that you can play through it often. The in game multiplayer is fun with friends. The online multiplayer can consume hours of your time easily. The maps are fun and with the new map pack you will have hours to go through playing and camping or clearing out those pesky campers. I have personally racked up quite a bit of playing time and being a college student it has assisted in many nights of procrastination. So if you are looking for a new game to pick up go grab Modern Warfare 2 and enjoy like the rest of us have.
