Califas Café & Bistro is a new restaurant that opened in Lodi, California in February of this year and I have wanted to go give them a try. They had some awesome specials for their Grand opening and we missed them only because we had gone with my niece and her 8 month old son and they didn’t have any high chairs yet, so my husband and I went this past weekend. My husband relented to taking me out to dinner and since the choice of restaurant is always mine I chose Califas Café & Bistro. My husband was looking forward to having a nice glass of wine or a cold beer since he had been working all day in the yard, well they don’t have their liquor license yet so the alcohol was not an option. We almost left, but he saw the sad look on my face so we stayed.
Califas Café & Bistro is an elegant restaurant that is peaceful, relaxing and very personable. We were greeted promptly by a very efficient waitress who knew about the menu choices, and helped us decide on the ones that we were contemplating. I chose well and loved my meal tremendously. As she inquired later on how we were enjoying the meal I told her I thought I might lick the plate because it was delicious. She laughed and she said her husband feels that urge as well. No, I didn’t lick my plate!
Califas Café & Bistro features Gourmet coffees, house-made Pastries, Salads, Panini’s and daily specials like Grilled Artichokes served with chipotle aioli dipping sauce to Baby Spinach and Grilled Prawns Salad. All the menu items sounded mouth watering to me. I ordered, and loved the Spring Vegetables a la Parrilla (grilled) It was a perfect combination of roasted spring vegetable timbale, (a pastry shell filled with cooked food) grilled Polenta, sautéed baby Spinach, drizzled with white truffle oil and balsamic. They use all fresh ingredients, no MSG and everything is made in house! The menu prices were reasonable and for a dinner choice it was a perfect place to unwind and be comfortable. Califas Café & Bistro is located in a busy shopping center and they should do very well. As we were paying our bill, another waitress, one of the owners, gave me a business card and she had written on the back that we would be given $5.00 off our next visit, I really wasn’t sure why only that maybe because my husband was disappointed about the wine. That was a really nice thing to give to us.
