This article will be covering the Eve Online Caldari Frigate, the Condor. The Condor is the fastest of the Caldari frigates, designed for anti frigate and ship tackling roles. This ship is designed for purely combat oriented roles, and requires Caldari Frigate level 2 and Spaceship Command level 1 to fly.
The Condor is described in Eve Online as: “The Condor is fast and agile. It has limited cargo space so it’s not very suitable for trading or mining. It is best used as an assault vessel in a hit-and-run type of operations.” The Condor benefits from a bonus of 5% to light missile and rocket kinetic damage, and a 10% bonus to light missile and rocket velocity per skill level of Caldari Frigates. Eve recommends the following certificates for players who wish to maximize the potential of the Condor in its various roles; Propulsion Jammer Operator, Frigate Launcher Control, Core Competency and High-Velocity Helmsman.
The Condor can fit 2 launchers, 1 turret and 3 small rigs with 400 calibration total amongst them. The module slots for the Condor are 3 high, 2 medium and 1 low power slots, with 100 CPU and 25 powergrid at base to run all the modules. Attribute wise the hit points are as follows with resistances in ( ) and following the order EM/EXP/KIN/THERM; Structure 195 hp (0/0/0/0), Armor 226 hp (50/10/25/45), Shield 274 hp (0/50/40/20) with a 625 second recharge time. The condor also has 150 cargo capacity, 156 Capacitor energy with a 117.19 second recharge time, 8 points of gravimetric sensor strength capable of maintain 4 locked targets within 25 kilometers. For propulsion, the max velocity stands at 404 meters a second.
The Condor is typically the first combat ship new Caldari players will end up flying, making it a beginner’s ship, however, still poses late game potential as a purely fast attack ship, or a decent tackling frigate. Most players typically drop the Condor in favor of the other Caldari frigates for the higher DPS they possess, but I have a particular fondness for the condor and its speed tanking abilities. Speed tanking is definitely the way to go in avoiding or offsetting damage with the condor. I will discuss below some possible load outs for the Condor.
Load out 1: The Panther
This load out I created, was an attempt at making an affordable, high end condor capable of laying down heavy damage while speed tanking. This ship has no tackling capabilities, but at maxed skills, it has 1,355 m/s top speed, improved agility to handle close orbits, and 93 DPS, comparable to the DPS offered by some of the other frigates. This ship can never top the DPS of the other frigates, however It’s insane speed will give it the ability to avoid more damage for a longer period of time, especially considering the fact that capacitor drain is stable at 78.62% with all modules simultaneously active. The webifier is equipped to counter balance the reduced velocity of the special anti ship rockets used to give the ship its higher DPS, which should allow them to be effective against the faster vessels, however, someone interested in attacking larger slower ships, can easily swap that out for a warp scrambler.
Load Out 2: Swift – Cheap Mission Running Condor
This load out created by fadedparadox, is meant to be used for the new Eve pilot, all modules being equipable on day 0 of an eve account. The price of this ship is also considerably low, allowing new players to easily afford assembling it off the market. This Condor load out however, due to its basic nature, does not have any outstanding attributes worth mentioning besides the accessibility for new players.
Load out 3: T2’d Condor Tackle
This partial load out designed by Grizzam shows the core tech 2 components needed to fit a Condor for tackling operations in Eve Online. For a tackling ship, speed and a warp scrambler are necessity, to be able to travel faster than the tackled ship, to maintain constant scramble of the ship (if they are able to run, they can escape the range of the scrambler allowing the victim to jump away). From here, a player can take this load out and add the missing modules to fit their specific need.
