What do Bristol Palin, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Tiffany, and Debbie Gibson have in common? They’re all women generating buzz thanks to TV appearances. From Bristol Palin’s appearance on ‘Secret Life of the American Teenager’ to Jennifer Love-Hewitt’s role as a prostitute in ‘The Client List’ and Debbie Gibson and Tiffany’s showdown on the SyFy channel, here’s a look at why these women’s TV appearances are making headlines:
Bristol Palin on ‘The Secret Life of the American Teenager’
Bristol Palin will be guest starring on ‘The Secret Life of the American Teenager’ in her acting debut. Unfortunately, judging from a clip from the show lasting mere seconds, it’s going to be no secret that she’s no professional actress. On the ‘The Secret Life of the American Teenager’, she’ll be playing a role she knows well as an unwed teen mom, taking part in a special program to teach teens about the consequences of teen pregnancy. Bristol Palin already gets paid around $30,000 a pop for giving abstinence speeches, but, if her appearance on ‘The Secret Life of the American Teenager’ is any evidence of her public speaking abilities, the big question is, “Why?” I will give Bristol Palin this, though: while her acting might be a bit robotic and stiff, it probably doesn’t help that she’ll be spewing inspiring lines like this: “You’re the world’s greatest French horn player and I’m Yo-Yo Ma.” That’ll scare a teen into not wanting to become pregnant! Still, her acting skills make mommy Sarah Palin look like Tina Fey. You can see the video evidence here and Bristol Palin’s entire performance when ‘The Secret Life of the American Teenager’ airs on July 5 on ABC Family.
Jennifer Love-Hewitt on ‘The Client List’
Another of the women of TV generating buzz this week, Jennifer-Love Hewitt’s new made-for-TV Lifetime movie looks like it has a ghost of a chance at being a bigger hit than her cancelled show, ‘The Ghost Whisperer’. Thanks to Lifetime’s declaration that ‘The Client List’ is based on a true story; the fact that Jennifer Love-Hewitt will be playing a woman that becomes a prostitute in order to support her family (she tries her hand at the profession due to the recession); and a trailer that features her wearing plenty of lingerie (including a scene where she gets arrested in a bra), it looks like plenty of women will be tuning in to watch ‘The Client List’ (and their hubbies might not mind watching with them for once). Check out the trailer that’s helping to create so much buzz for this crazy true story (that I’m sure Lifetime has taken plenty of liberties with) here, and see Jennifer Love-Hewitt try to reclaim her career on July 19, 2010.
Tiffany v. Debbie Gibson in the Syfy Channel’s ‘Mega Python vs. Gatoroid’
Perhaps the oddest of the TV women generating buzz this week, 80’s pop tarts Debbie Reynolds and Tiffany renew their old rivalry in the form of a Syfy movie. In the flick that will likely be as campy as ‘The Secret Life of the American Teenager’, Debbie Gibson will star as an animal rights campaigner who frees exotic snakes from pet stores, allowing them to grow into gigantic monsters in the everglades, while Tiffany will play a park ranger trying to protect endangered alligators. But the best part of ‘Mega Python vs. Gatoroid’? The pop princesses will romp in the swamp in a battle royale that would have been epic a few decades ago. Sure the special effects will be terrible; the writing will reek worse that the swamp in the summer heat; and at least one of the pop tarts will become toast, but it’ll all be too terrible not to miss and give the armchair MST3K treatment when ‘Mega Python vs. Gatoroid’ premeires next year.
So while these lovely ladies won’t likely win any awards with their latest TV appearances, the buzz they’re generating will likely lead to big ratings (looks like ‘Jersey Shore’ has ushered in a whole new era of what viewers consider worth watching).
