Possible Causes of Bret Michaels’ Brain Hemorrhaging
Hemorrhaging is basically a fancy term for bleeding. A brain hemorrhage is a type of stroke. It is caused when an artery in the brain bursts and causes bleeding in the surrounding tissues. The bleeding kills brain cells.
There are various causes of brain hemorrhaging: brain trauma, aneurysm, high blood pressure, brain tumors, liver disease, blood disorders, blood vessel abnormalities, and amyloid angiopathy.
Symptoms of Brain Hemorrhaging
Bret Michaels was rushed to the hospital during his appendectomy recovery due to a severe headache, where he was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage. Other symptoms of brain hemorrhaging include: seizures, weakness in arms and legs, nausea and vomiting, lethargy, changes in vision, tingling or numbness, and loss of motor skills, among others. Bear in mind, however, that these symptoms can also be caused by something other than a brain hemorrhage.
How is Brain Hemorrhaging Treated?
Treatment for hemorrhaging in the brain depends on the location, cause, and extent of the bleeding. Surgery may be needed; certain medications can also be prescribed. Blood products may even need to be administered in some situations.
Most people die while the brain is still hemorrhaging (before they even reach the hospital). As of yet, rocker-turned-reality star Bret Michaels is in serious condition but is still fighting for his life. The rock singer’s spokeswoman said there would be no more information given until he has additional tests.
UPDATE: According to TMZ, Bret Michaels has been stabilized. He is “awake, in good spirits, and talking.” Talk about a miraculous recovery! Let’s hope Bret’s recovery from his emergency appendectomy, and now this brain hemorrhage, continues to go so well.
