Just weeks after suffering a nearly fatal brain hemorrhage, 47 year old Poison front man Bret Michaels rocked The Oprah Winfrey Show in an interview with the talk show queen that aired on May 19th.
But before the Oprah interview aired, fans who saw promos for the show expressed concern over the rockers appearance. In a statement on Bret Michaels website, his road manager Janna Elias said that the rocker is experiencing some facial drooping as a result of his brain hemorrhage, but that continued rehabilitation will hopefully alleviate it.
During the Oprah interview, Michaels told Winfrey why he kept his trademark bandana on during his hospital stay. Fans may have noticed the bandana in a People Magazine photo spread of the singer that included a hospital shot of a bedridden Michaels donning his black bandana.
Comparing life (or death) without his bandana to “Superman without the cape”, Michaels told Winfrey, “If I’m going out, I want to go out rockin’.”
And rockin’ he’ll continue to do. Amazingly, Michaels has a gig planned next week in Biloxi, Mississippi. Then it’s off on a tour with Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd.
According to ABC News, Michaels’ 9 year old daughter, Raine, also appeared on the Oprah show and expressed her fears about her father’s close call with death, saying, “To think that my dad wouldn’t be growing up with me and my dad wouldn’t be walking me down the aisle for my wedding, it was just really heartbreaking.” Michaels also has a 5 year old daughter , Jorja, with girlfriend Kristi Gibson.
Michaels told Winfrey that prayers and some deal making with God helped pull him through.
Michaels’ interview with Oprah comes less than a week before his live appearance on the Celebrity Apprentice finale. Michaels will be up against actress Holly Robinson Peete in the season finale on May 23rd, before taking to the road next month on his tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd.
And while he’s no Ryan Seacrest (but come on, who is?), Michaels may be one of the hardest working guys in showbiz. His IMDB profile list credits as an actor, producer, writer, director and composer.
Fresh off the Celebrity Apprentice finale and summer concert tour, Michaels- who has mastered the balance between rock and roll and reality TV careers- has a new album,” Custom Built”, due out next month and will star in a new VH1 reality show, Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It, slated to air next fall.
And in his People interview, he even revealed that a walk down the aisle with Gibson may not be out of the question.
Let’s just hope he’s parked that Rock of Love tour bus for good.
