Bret Michaels on The Celebrity Apprentice or Lost? It might be the toughest decision a television viewer has ever had to make on a Sunday night. What will fans want to watch live-or will they just be stuck with a DVR of both?
It’s the ultimate dilemma that television fans will face on Sunday night. For some odd reason, ABC decided that the series finale of Lost needed to occupy a Sunday instead of the normal slot during the week. That puts the series finale of Lost up against The Celebrity Apprentice. Normally, I would say it’s a no brainer to tape The Celebrity Apprentice and watch the live version of Lost. Here’s where the problem exists for television fans and myself.
The Celebrity Apprentice just isn’t a normal season finale this year. If you haven’t heard, Bret Michaels is recovering from a brain hemorrhage, a warning stroke and a hole in his heart. Bret Michaels has apparently confirmed he will make the live version of The Celebrity Apprentice on Sunday Night against Holly Robinson Peete.
Talk about live dramatic television at the very best. How can you not watch The Celebrity Apprentice live if Bret Michaels is going to make a dramatic comeback so soon after enduring such a tumultuous last few weeks leading up to the series finale of The Celebrity Apprentice? It’s kind of amazing the guy is still alive. Yet, here Bret Michaels is on the verge of completing a live television show despite the fact he should probably be sitting this one out. Is Bret Michaels an absolute trooper or what?
It’s probably one of the more compelling arguments a fan could ever have to skip a series finale of Lost-or at least tape it on the DVR. Lost will still be there when The Celebrity Apprentice is done and vice versa.
Lost has it’s series finale on at the same time thanks to an ABC decision to switch it to Sunday. Perhaps it had something to do with the NBA playoffs or maybe ABC wanted to put viewers in a dilemma and see which show comes out on top. No Desperate Housewives means ABC has a time slot to fill? Who knows what the answer to that question is but it certainly won’t hurt the numbers for ABC on Sunday night. Unless Bret Michaels has a lot more pull than what ABC believes to be true. Either way, the Lost army of viewers will be armed and ready to take their televisions hostage regardless of what anyone thinks about the bad boy of rock and roll. It’s like the New York Yankees vs. the New York Mets in the World Series. Except some genius decided to put both on at the same exact time on separate channels. Sports teams and owners typically don’t put the big football game up against the big baseball game when the two seasons do cross paths. It must be some mutual respect that the evil network television empires just never adopted.
My gut feeling is that both will be watched in huge unseen before Sunday numbers. The interesting part of the whole deal will be the resulting numbers of which show was watched live. Will it be The Celebrity Apprentice or Lost?
I’ve thought about all the scenarios of how I could watch both in a shorter amount of time. I could start The Celebrity Apprentice for about an hour and then switch to Lost at that point. I could then fast-forward through the commercials and then get back to The Celebrity Apprentice at about the 1 hour mark. That would allow me to fast-forward through The Celebrity Apprentice commercials-watch Bret Michaels take The Celebrity Apprentice title and get back for the finale of the series finale of Lost. I’ve drawn up more scenarios to make it happen that there are possible endings for Lost.
Lost is going to be a long one. 2 and a half hours of Lost means it’s going to be a late Sunday night for my family if we plan on watching both before going to bed. The horrific thing, and I say this sarcastically, is that if you fall asleep without seeing either show end then you will probably hear about it the first thing in the morning. The talk shows will be absolutely nuts talking about what happened on Lost and The Celebrity Apprentice.
Whoever created this scheduling nightmare must have had it in for me and my Sunday night rest before Monday. Who won The Celebrity Apprentice? Did the cast finally get off the island in Lost? Did Bret Michaels win The Celebrity Apprentice despite having such huge health problems in the last few weeks? Was the smoke monster finally corralled? I have so many questions and too many answers for my Sunday night dilemma.
It’s television at it’s best-or at least it should be. A few years ago I probably wouldn’t have ever said there were two network shows that would make me worry about such a dilemma. Lost has been an epic giant in terms of getting my attention for some time now. I want to see some finality. We need closure as viewers. At the same time, I want to see Bret Michaels and know that he is okay. We’ve invested some time getting to know this rocker turned reality television star, too. Unlike Lost, Bret Michaels is a real person. He’s also a real character-no pun intended.
The Celebrity Apprentice is always interesting enough to keep my attention but even more so since Bret Michaels is on the cast this season. Bret Michaels winning the entire deal is an absolute no brainer if he shows up. All he has to do is show up. That has to prove how tough he is. Even Donald wouldn’t have the heart to fire the guy who faced so many medical dilemmas in the past month. Bret Michaels can’t lose can he? I would say on the basis of that thought that I probably should tape what could be a predictable The Celebrity Apprentice finale. I am sure Donald will make Holly admit that Bret Michaels is one tough guy to come back on the show considering his recent circumstances. The emotion of The Celebrity Apprentice season finale is one reason I absolutely would hate to tape it.
But then there is this whole Lost deal. I have invested way too much time for the series finale of such a show to not be considered an event. It’s probably the only show that I have watched every single episode of-ever. You know how you tend to miss an episode here or there of most shows. Now in the age of every show being available on some website, I have seen Lost from start to finish. At least that will be the case on Sunday night if I can somehow juggle two finales at once. Curse the people who made this silly decision and are making me split my time between what should be two fantastic finishes.
The pressure of having to watch both simultaneously is driving me absolutely nuts as I get ready fro bed on this eve before the Big TV Sunday(as it will always be known from this point forward). Will I get to watch The Celebrity Apprentice and see Bret Michaels win before Monday morning? Will I finally put lost to bed before I put myself to bed? It’s as if I have my own cliffhanger that can’t be solved until tomorrow night. Let’s just hope the DVR works and I figure out some simple solution to my television dilemma at some point during the deepest of my sleep on Saturday night.
