Decorating a little boy’s bedroom or nursery can be a bit daunting at times. Luckily, tried and true themes such as sports are often an easy way of bringing several different pieces together. This baseball themed rocking chair project is quite simple to create and will cost less than a pre-decorated version purchased from a retailer.
For this project, you will need (per rocking chair):
– Unfinished Wooden Rocking Chair (available at craft supply shops)
– Medium or fine grit sandpaper
– Tack cloth or other soft cloth
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in True Blue
– Krylon Spray Adhesive
– Baseball themed chipboard (available at scrapbook supply shops)
– Sponge brush
– Polyurethane sealant
– Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
Before starting this rocking chair project, cover the area in which you will be crafting with a few sheets of old newspaper and/or a large drop cloth. Sand the surface of the rocking chair smooth with a sheet or two of medium or fine grit sandpaper. Wipe off any dust, debris, or other matter created during the sanding process with a tack cloth or other soft cloth.
Coat the entire wooden rocking chair in an even coat of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Dry for a couple hours before painting the chair using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in True Blue. Wait for twenty minutes before adding a second coat of blue paint to the chair. Keep adding coats of paint until you reach a desired shade of blue for the finished project. Let the rocking chair dry overnight.
Decide where on the rocking chair you wish to attach the baseball themed embellishments. This can be the seat, the back of the chair, the legs, or any combination thereof. Spray the back of each embellishment with Krylon Spray Adhesive and attach it to the chair. Let the glue dry fully.
Use a sponge brush and a generous amount of polyurethane sealant to seal the paper pieces onto the chair. Let the project cure for several days before enjoying.
TIP: This boys rocking chair project can also be created in other themes under the same instructions. Consider a football theme, racecar theme, golf theme, hockey theme, or soccer theme all alternative options. Or, in lieu of sports consider zoo animals, firefighter, military camouflage, or police themes. Adjust the colors in the project to suit your changed theme.
