Books are a great way to stimulate our minds and picture the story in our head. Here are the top 3 books I think should be made into a movie.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
This book is based in the future. All known natural disasters occur leaving only a small portion of survivors. In North America they split up 13 districts all producing different trades including fishing, gems, and agriculture. A girl named Katniss who is now 16 years old lives with her mother and sister in District 12. Every year the districts hold an annual event called the hunger games, where 1 boy and 1 girl are chosen from each district and put up against each other to fight for their lives. The winner will live and survivor will die, the winner comes out with food and wealth for their district and is taken care of for the rest of their life. Katniss’ 12 year old sister is chosen to be a contestant in the Hunger Games. Katniss knew her younger sister could not survive this deadly game so she volunteers to go in for her. She is then put up against Peeta Mellark, a boy she knew and that once saved her life. At the beginning of the Hunger Games Peeta confesses his love for Katniss. I don’t want to give any spoilers as to who wins the Hunger Games but this book was very interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. In a movie made of this book I would cast Kristen Stewert, I think she could fit the role perfect as she does look younger than her real age and she has an edge to her that a lot of other actresses don’t have. For the younger sister I would cast Emma Watson and for Peeta Mellark I would cast Shia LaBeouf. I would also like Danny Boyle to be the director. He has directed movies such as “Shallow Grave” and “28 Days Later.”
What Happened to Cass McBride by Gail Giles
This book was about a boy named David Kyle who one day at school asks a girl, Cass McBride, on a date and she refuses. Cass then writes a note to her best friend saying that she thinks David is gay and sticks it underneath her desk so her best friend could read it during the next class period. David finds the note and that night committed suicide by hanging himself. A friend of David, also named David, sets out to get revenge on Cass and buries her alive with a small hole and hose to breathe from. Throughout the book it unravels the real reason why David committed suicide, and shows what the past had done to effect both David’s emotionally. This book was great because it kept you guessing and showed how people can have a lot of different sides to them and there is often more than meets the eye with some people. For Cass I would cast Miley Cyrus, because Cass was known as the popular outgoing girl and I think Miley could play that part well. For David Kyle I would cast Daniel Radcliffe, who once played Harry Potter. For the other David, who buries Cass, I would cast Jamie Bell, who was once in the movie King Kong. The director of this movie would be Ron Howard, who has directed “A Beautiful Mind.”
Hanging onto Max by Margaret Bechard
This book was about a boy a 17 year old named Sam, who has a son named Max. The mother of the child left deciding she was to young to parent to Sam has full custody and is living with his mom. He then switches to an alternative school where he meets a girl named Claire who also has a baby. The story shows the struggles that come with having a baby while being trying to be an average teenager, dealing with life and a new love. This book would be great to be turned into a movie because it could be a real eye opener to how hard teen parenting actually is. For the characters I would cast Robert Pattinson as Sam, I think he would be great for the part since I can picture him dealing with this stressful and dramatic situation. For Claire I would cast Dakota Fanning, because she looks like she could pull of being the new love of Sam’s life and she is a great actress. For the director I would choose Lee Daniels, who directed the powerful movie “Precious”.
