I love to cook food that is flavorful. That is why I use a lot of seasoning in most of my dishes.
Consequently, I am always on the look out for new seasoning products. Over the years I have found some that I love so much I continue to use them. The seasoning blend I am about to review falls into that category.
I love cooking Cajun inspired dishes. I like spicy food because it wakes up the palate and sets the mind on path of flavor exploration.
One of my favorite dishes in the entire world is a well prepared blackened steak. But finding the right blend of spices to make such a dish soar can be tricky.
I have experimented with making my own spice blends in the past, to varying degrees of success. But none of my triumphs ever came close to Blackened Steak Magic Seasoning Blends from Chef Paul Prudhommes.
The ingredients of this seasoning blend are perfect. They include dehydrated chili, garlic and onion, miscellaneous spices and salt. Everything is natural in nature and contains no food additives, MSG or preservatives.
A serving size of Blackened Steak Magic Seasoning Blends from Chef Paul Prudhommes is ¼ tsp. That means there are approximately 75 servings in each 1.8 oz jar.
This seasoning contains 80 milligrams of salt, which may make it out of the reach of individuals who must watch their salt intake. However, it contains no carbohydrates, cholesterol, sat or sugar. That also means that is has little nutritional value on its own.
Using Blackened Steak Magic Seasoning Blends from Chef Paul Prudhommes to make the perfect blackened steak is easy. Just coat the steak on both sides with a very light dusting of extra light virgin olive oil. Then sprinkle on the seasoning blend, being sure to evenly distribute the spice throughout the steak.
Once it is ready to cook, you have several options for preparation. It can be cooked in a skillet on the stove, broiled in the oven, or grilled on the barbecue.
To cook the steak in a skillet on top of the stove, add 2 tbsp. of extra virgin olive oil to the pan and heat on high. Once the oil is good and hot, place the steak in the pan to get a quick, even sear. Turn the meat over to sear it on the other side. It will take about 1 minute per side for the sear to be right.
Reduce the heat under the skillet once both sides of the steak are seared. Now continue cooking on medium to medium-low heat until the desired doneness is achieved.
Plate the steak and pour the natural juices from the skillet over the top. Serve as is or add your favorite steak topping.
To broil the steak, place it into a well-heated broiler. Sear one side and then flip over to the other. Continue broiling until the desired doneness is achieved. Plate and serve the steak.
To grill the steak, place the meat on a heated grill. Using water, spritz the flames to encourage them to “kiss” the steak and sear it properly. Flip over and repeat on the other side.
Continue grilling the steak until the desired doneness is achieved. Then plate and serve alone or with your favorite steak topping.
You can further flavor the steak by cooking it on a wood plank or by adding wood chips to the grill. You can also baste the steak as it grills if you so desire.
