Millions of different products hit the consumer market every year. Most of those products will last a few years before they disappear forever. This is because there may have been flaws in their design, lack of consumer interest, or the product was just not good enough. Occasionally there is a product that is so perfect that no one thinks of changing it but only altering it. The refrigerator has been one of these products. However, a Russian Engineer may of created something special with the Bio Robot Refrigerator.
Yuriy Dmitriev entered his design in the Electrolux Design Lab competition that is currently being held. This is a competition that challenges entrants to redesign modern appliances for practical future use. The Bio Robot Refrigerator is truly a thing of the future because it uses a biopolymer gel that takes luminescence to cool the products in your fridge. Confused? Look at the included picture and think of a refrigerator that looks like jello but does more than fill your appetite.
The design was created with the thought of first eliminating the limiting shelve space often found in most refrigerators. In place of these shelves is a odorless gel that is able to morph around products whenever you insert them into the gel. Each product will then be separated into it’s own “pod”, away from other contents of the fridge and simply suspends there with no worries of it falling out of place and creating a mess inside.
Perhaps one of the coolest aspects of this technology is your ability to basically place the fridge anywhere you want and in any direction that you want. Since the gel can hold the contents in place you will be able to even have the fridge be hung horizontally or vertically. Also, there is no door with this system which make it even easier to access what you want at a whim. Word has it that the concept also will save you a ton on your electric bill because it uses less power.
Remember that this is only one of nearly 30 different designs entered into the competition. However, after viewing many of the other items I am led to believe that the Bio Robot Refrigerator stands a good chance of winning the entire thing. The concept is unique and fun. What this could do for the refrigerator is make people think twice about the one they currently have in their home. Refrigerators on the market today are incredibly similar except for a few modern advances. This would drastically change their look & feel and could be a true modern boom for the refrigerator.
