I was watching a show on the History Channel the other night. It was called “Decision’s That Shook The World.” It’s a series that examines leadership methods and the actual decision’s undertaken in so doing. The show I refer to discussed FDR’s behind the scenes efforts after WWII began but before the US was attacked by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor.
As part of the program people who worked in the FDR administration were interviewed as well as historian’s who appraise the decisions and methods. There were also the only two living former Democrat President’s – Carter & Clinton.
Of course both were effusive in their praise of FDR, his methods, humanity and so on. In heaping their praise upon the progressive FDR both men revealed some things I consider vital for the public knowledge, especially considering our current progressive leaders at present and their efforts and intentions in governing this nation.
Both Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter were rather clear in their admiration as well as their excusing and forgiving FDR’s actions while president. They’re both very clear that while some of FDR’s acts leading up to US involvement in combat in WWII were clearly not legal and in fact un-Constitutional, it was okay because it was all done for the good of the nation.
Both Clinton & Carter excused FDR’s questionable acts as supporting the concept – the ends justifies the means. They took the overall position that FDR was way too smart and nuanced to bother following the laws of the land – that’s for the other politician’s to do, but FDR, since he had the nation’s best interests at heart, and since it was such a dire era in history, well, the ends justify the means.
Does the reader see the complete and total danger and terror-filled possibilities when the means justify the ends? What does it say about progressives – and Clinton was clear in his repeated mention of progressives in the show I watched – that even former progressive president’s find such un-Constitutional actions as acceptable because the actions suit their justifications for presidential actions?
For the record, that IS NOT how this nation is lawfully directed to conduct it’s business.
Do reader’s recall when there was a Republican president and a Republican led Congress? Anyone have any vague memories as to all the allegations – false though they were – that were thrown around about the actions of the President and/or Congress?
Need I remind readers of the Pelosi led Congress, in less than 2 years of majority leadership, instigated more than 300 investigations into the Bush Administration, leveling all manner of allegation of wrongdoing – not a single one substantiated by any facts whatsoever? Anyone? The first Pelosi Congress was insistent that Bush was guilty of all manner of un-American activity that was not legal, yet despite these 300 bogus efforts by progressives, not a single factual incident was ever made public – not a single one! No charges filed. All those official US government resources devoted to attacking Bush for the sake of political “gotcha.”
And now what do we see from the Pelosi Congress and Obama Administration? All manner of “emergency” popping up, one upon the heels of another. Add in all the strong-arming of car companies, banks, Wall Street and now BP, and what have we? Of course the first effort at strong-arming was undertaken by Hank Paulson, Bush’s Treasury Secretary, with the first efforts at mitigating the current financial crisis, and make no mistake – that was wrong too!
I sure hope readers are paying attention. It is but a short journey from good intentions as justifying un-Constitutional acts to outright usurpation of the laws of this land. And that is how we will lose our nation, friends. I guarantee it. Each small and justified usurpation will lead to more and bigger ones following on its heels.
Aren’t the current actions of this administration living proof of what I maintain? “It’s important that we take this step . . . . ” Yeah, right! In my mind what is important is the rule of law. Once those in power justify circumventing the law for some greater good, and that is accepted by media and the public, the slide down the slippery slope has begun in earnest.
In closing, let me pose the real quandary – especially progressives and Democrat supporters as to the dangers – what will happen if Republican’s take over the Congress in November as it looks like may well happen? Do Democrats & progressives want Republican’s to possess such power? What if a Republican wins the presidency in 2012 and has control of the Congress too?
Why do I have the sneaking suspicion that what progressives and Obama supporters justify and accept now will suddenly be intolerable and in their minds, illegal? Y’all felling me here? There’s many a slip between the spoon and the lip. In case that’s lost on ya it mean no matter how many good intentions are floating around, once such a path is embarked upon, woe be upon all of us. Fight them! Do not accept such efforts, and especially because they will do it and justify it as an emergency measure undertaken for the greater good. It’s political supremacy they’re after – believe it!
