Bikini Emergency: Lose 10 Pounds in a Week

Dropping 10 pounds in a week is possible if you are motivated and dedicated to make major changes to your habits and lifestyle.

For people who need to lose 10 pounds to get into a wedding dress or a bikini, it’s advisable to follow the following 10 tips for dropping 10 pounds in a hurry. What’s great about this plan is it’s not a fad diet. And you can carry on with many of the new habits even after the week is up. Don’t expect as much weight loss after the first week.

Here are 10 tried and proven tips for losing 10 pounds in a week:

No. 1: To lose 10 pounds fast, stop eating at night. Don’t allow yourself any food – only water – after 5 p.m. Try to avoid caffeine at night as well so you don’t interfere with your sleep which is also important for weight loss. Go to bed early if you are hungry. It will help you lose weight faster.

No. 2: People who drop 10 pounds in a week start their day with eggs. Eat at least one whole egg and possibly one egg white in the morning. The best idea is to squeeze in vegetables at each and every meal. So, for breakfast, try sautéing peppers, onions, mushrooms, zucchini, broccoli and adding that to your omelet. Eating eggs will curb your appetite the rest of the day. Enjoy eating more for breakfast than any other time of the day.

No. 3: Drop 10 pounds fast by having a fruit smoothie with real fruit and yogurt such as Activia (plain) as your mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack. Then have one more fruit snack during the day (preferably an apple with natural almond butter or peanut butter).

No. 4: One of the secrets to dropping 10 pounds in a week is to drink green tea. Green tea has no calories (unsweetened) and has been shown to speed up metabolism. Buy a pot of mint or grow some in your yard. Brew your own green tea, and add ice, using mint leaves to really give it a refreshing flavor.

No. 5: If you want to drop 10 pounds in a week, don’t even think about drinking anything besides unsweetened tea, water and coffee with no added sugars. Do NOT drink any artificial sweetener as it makes you fatter by messing up your blood sugar levels. Stevia does not have the same affect on blood sugar levels and is a plant so stevia or Truvia is acceptable. Do not drink alcohol.

No. 6: Don’t get into heavy weight lifting, but follow a light resistance plan such as Denise Austin’s 10-minute arm exercise routines using light weights. Do this every other day during the week for toned looking arms.

No. 7: It’s not enough to lose 10 pounds in a week. You want to lose inches, especially in your mid-section if you are trying to wear a revealing bikini or a wedding dress. Work your abs by doing Pilates. You can borrow Pilates DVDs from the library. Run, don’t walk, to the library or store. You can actually perform Pilates exercises every day, and you should during the 7 days before the big event.

No. 8: To lose 10 pounds in a week, exercise for 1/2 hours five days out of the seven at a high intensity such as running or jump rope. Down the road you may switch to an hour of exercise, but while losing weight in a short amount of time, it’s not advised to do more than the half hour of aerobic combined with the Pilates and resistance training for your arms.

No. 9: Don’t eat out with other people during the 7 days unless it’s a handsome man. Researchers have shown women tend to eat less in the presence of an attractive man. So if you have to attend a party, make sure you sit next to a man who makes you feel a little self-conscious. On the other hand, women who eat out with a large group of other women tend to pick up their bad habits and give into food temptations.

No. 10: Avoid salt and sodium more than anything else. One of the secrets of the Jenny Craig program is that the prepared diet meals they sell are extremely low in sodium. People lose a lot of water weight the first week on the diet simply by eliminating sodium. This can work for you as well because sodium tends to make you look bloated. Cut way back on sodium for the week and you will lose the bloat and weight.

As far as what to eat for lunch and dinner, use common sense. Eat a lot of vegetables, herbs and lean protein. Avoid breads and sweets. Eat a very small dinner.

Once the seven days are up, you can continue to eat earlier in the day. You don’t have to make 5 p.m. your cutoff for eating, but at least make the kitchen off-limits after 7 p.m. Continue eating at least 5 whole eggs a week, but no more since an excess of eggs is not associated with good health. You may go back to drinking but stick to no more than 1 glass of red wine three or four days a week.
