OK folks, this is it. The last week on the ranch. Get ready for lots of looks back, tons of reflection, and gallons of tears.
Mike starts out by summarizing with Sam going home and that it is now 3 against 2. Michael, Ashley, and Daris have an alliance. Koli and Sunshine are clear that keeping Mike on campus did not make sense. Mike is a strong competitor and Koli does not understand why they didn’t take Mike out when they had the chance. Koli has some serious determination and he says he is going to win.
Meeting with Allison
This week there is no vote. Friendships and alliances mean nothing. There will be a single red line this week with the lowest percentage of weight loss being automatically eliminated. Koli thinks that Daris and Ashley are now regretting their choice. Koli is very happy with this news.
Former Winners Return
Helen and Eric come back to the ranch to inspire the contestants. Helen won season 7 and was the oldest winner. She has maintained her weight well. Season 3 winner Eric, however, has struggled with his weight. He says he did good for a year and a half and then became depressed. He stopped working out, returned to his old eating habits, and gained almost all of his weight back. Eric is back on track again. He has lost 70 pounds and is looking forward to getting back to a comfortable weight. I really like the fact that they are showing both sides of weight loss. The reality is some people gain it back and I appreciate their honesty in showing Eric’s struggles. I thought Helen was too thin at the finale and I am happy to see that she looks like she is at a more natural weight now.
Ashley and Helen talk about how she has changed, but her environment has not. Daris and Eric talk about how Daris is single and how he now loves himself. He will be looking for someone who loves him, too. Sunshine and Helen talk abut how to work out when she goes home. Working out an hour or two and eating the right things is ok. Koli and Eric talk about Koli’s focus on the finale while remembering what happens after the finale. The same problems will be there after the finale. “The finale isn’t the finish line, it’s a lifetime.”
Michael wanted to talk to Eric and Helen together. Mike feels that the finish line is so far away that he can’t even see it. He thinks that Eric might be able to relate to him because Eric was one of the heavier contestants, too. Mike gets very emotional and Helen says that she has full confidence that he will find the balance when he gets home. Mike is concerned that he is starting to get “neurotic”. He asks who goes on a weight loss show and leaves still obese.
The contestants recap for Jillian and Bob that Sam went home and that there will be a red line this week. No deliberation, whoever has the lowest percentage of weight loss is out of the competition. This is it. The final four will be determined this week and there is tension! Bob and Jillian attempt to process and Koli sets them straight. Sam is gone and Koli will be in the final four. Let the beatings begin!
Michael has a complete meltdown. He is having a hard time with the fact that regardless of how much he has lost; he still has a significant amount to lose. He keeps focusing on how much more he still needs to lose and is losing sight of how far he has come. Bob reinforces that Mike has consistently set new records on the ranch. Mike talks about how hard this has been for him and how upset he is that he almost went home last week. After his melt down, he feels more focused on his work out.
The contestants each strap on a bag with all of the weight that that they have lost in the time they have been on the ranch. They drop a pack with each week’s weight loss in it at each flag after climbing a giant mound of dirt. At the end, they will throw their pack away for forever. Winner gets $10,000. Sunshine carries 96 pounds, Ashley carries 136 pounds, Daris carries pounds, and Michael carries 192 pounds. They begin by really struggling and dragging their bags along behind them. Michael says “this challenge is an awesome reminder of how miserable I was”. Ashley really struggles to get up mound 4. Being stuck on the hill was like being stuck in her old body. Daris has been in the front throughout the challenge and sprints to the finish line. Sunshine sprints into second place and Koli is third. Daris runs back to help Ashley and Mike. Sunshine and Koli also go back to help the other contestants. They all make it to the finish line. Daris chooses between $10,000 or a one pound advantage at weigh-in. He decides to go for the one-pound advantage.
Product Placement-Special Guest Tony Romo gives an inspiring speech then joins them for a hike. Tony reminds them to rely on the people around them and reach out for help. You don’t need to do this on your own!
We start with Daris and Bob looking back at Daris’ journey. Man, I get choked up every time I hear Daris say “and I will do everything I can to make you proud”. Next up is Sunshine and Jillian. She talks about putting on her “show” of being happy when she was heavier. She now realizes that she can “go home and be ok”. Koli and Bob watch Koli’s journey. Koli talks about being proud of accomplishing what he “set out to accomplish”. He says, “this is the happiest I’ve ever been”. Ashley and Jillian watch together. They laugh about her first work out and falling off of the back of the treadmill. Jillian tells her “you had one foot in the grave kid”.
Mike walks in and Bob tells him that out of all of the contestants, Mike really needs to see this. He ran a 5k at 372 pounds. Simply amazing! Mike reflects on the pain he saw in the eyes of his heavier self. Dr. H meets with Mike to update him on his health since losing weight. It is amazing to see a side-by-side comparison of Mike’s face before and after. Not only does he look thinner, but he looks healthier. Also, his chance of having a stroke is down to 1%.
Last Chance Workout
Sunshine sprints with perfect form for 20 seconds. Ashley jogs at 8 miles an hour, then runs at 10 miles an hour. I just love the little smirk she has while she is running. Daris talks abut continuing to find what he has in himself. Mike is waking up everyday with happiness. Koli had to get out of a rut and now he is happy and looking forward to his future. Sunshine says “for the first time in my life I believe in myself . . . I can do anything I want”.
Lowest percentage is out of the final four. Person with the highest percentage of weight loss will win Chef Curtis Stone coming to your home.
Michael is up first. He lost 12 pounds for a percentage of 3.59%. He lost 204 pounds for a Biggest Loser record.
Koli needs to lose 8 pounds to beat Michael. He lost 13 pounds. Through tears he says, “I just wish Sam was here.” Koli has had a total loss of 172 pounds.
Daris is 17% body fat right now and “losing a big number is going to be tough”. He ran at least 10 miles every day this week. He needs to lose 6 pounds to guarantee a spot in the final four. He lost 10 pounds and is down to 195. He reflects that he wanted to be 150 or 160 pounds lighter and he has done it. He has lost 151 pounds. With his one-pound advantage, his total percentage is 5.73 putting him in first.
Ashley needs to lose more than 8 pounds to stay above Michael. She lost 7 pounds. There is irony that Ashley kept Michael in last week, but he may keep her from the final four. She’s lost 143 pounds total and holds the record of most weight lost by a woman on campus. Her percentage is 2.94.
Three of the final four have been determined-Daris, Koli, and Michael. Who will have the fourth spot?
Sunshine needs to lose more than 5 pounds. She looks so tiny and it seems unlikely. Sunshine has lost 2 pounds and immediately congratulates her competitors. In 17 weeks, Sunshine has lost 99 pounds. Touching words and encouragement from Bob and Ashley. 1.12% is Sunshine’s final number and she is below the red line.
24 Hours Later
Sunshine has straightened her hair, is in a cute dress, and goes to her high school gym. The gym is full and her family is waiting to give her hugs. Sunshine makes a speech and stresses, “appreciating the small victories”. The Minnesota Twins gave her a new jersey and she is throwing out the first pitch. They are “tailgating in a healthy way”. Sunshine has lost 113 pounds and hopes to lose another 10 pounds before the finale.
Only 2 episodes left. Everyone goes home for 30 days. Then, they come back for a final weigh in on campus. It looks like someone gained 2 pounds and Jillian declares, “obviously you sabotaged yourself”.
