Today news of BP’s Gulf oil disaster continues as they try, and consistently fail, to cap off the Worlds worst oil disaster ever recorded, or witnessed, by man. Coastal businesses will surely go bankrupt and close due to this catastrophic event unfolding on a daily basis; and with no end in sight for the long term. Not to mention the impact that such a large oil spill will have on wildlife, fish, and the ecological balance that hinges on the immediate and complete clean up efforts that will surely follow. This disaster basically makes the Exxon Valdez disaster look like someone just dumped an oil change for their car into a storm drain. Detrimental ,to say the least, but it hardly compares to the current situation. You can’t go anywhere on the Internet or on news stations without hearing about big oil company BP trying to stop this disaster with one failed attempt after another.
The Deep water Horizon oil spill, also called the BP Oil Spill, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill or the Macondo blowout is a massive oil spill 5,000 feet below the sea surface in the Gulf of Mexico. The spill originates from a sea floor oil gusher that followed an April 20, 2010 oil rig explosion that killed 11 oil rig workers and injured 17 others on the Deepwater Horizon offshore oil rig drilling platform off of the Louisiana coast. The oil rig, leased by BP PLC from its owner, Transocean Ltd continues to belch out 12,000 to 100,000 barrels of crude oil a day and BP has not come up with a solution to stop it as of yet. This doesn’t even mention the underwater plumes of oil that can not be seen from the surface but will rise as turbulence from the immense pressure subsides farther away from the site of the disaster.
Does this disaster mean anything to the profit hungry companies that subdue new technology in favor of the old fashioned and dangerous technology that has fueled the World up to this point? Would it not be better to put that same money towards clean and safe energy production solutions that don’t pollute and are safe because they operate on a small scale? When was the last time you heard about a solar panel or wind farm disaster?
Currently there are proven energy systems and technology that is more officiant than solar, wind and oil/fossil/coal fuel options combined. These solutions also clean up the mess that industry has already made by burning substances in order to extract the energy and sell it to the masses on an inefficient grid that requires constant maintenance due to wear, storm systems and upgrades.
The old guard is on his way out but he is fighting the inevitable every step of the way. Oil companies want to milk every last bit of profit from their industry before shutting down by cutting costs while raising prices. Does this sound like a solid business plan for the masses or a way for the select few to maximize the amount of wealth they can gain before the end of an era? The latter seems to be more obvious as the days of this current disaster go by. Who is really in charge of catastrophic events like this and what are they doing to ensure that, in the future, things like this will not be allowed to happen?
It is time for the general public to explore new options. The World can not afford to be reckless and to only do half hearted research when mistakes could essentially do more damage than anything short of a nuclear blast. The current situation in the gulf was and is avoidable and the money that will be spent to cap off the oil rig and clean up the mess could have been put to much better use if greed had not been a factor. It is time for the human race to stop thinking about themselves as individuals and start thinking about the legacy that years of greed will surely leave behind for future generations. If we do not consider all of the facts and options available there may not be many future generations to leave this mess to.
Instead of complaining about the current problems faced by the World today this article will also offer some answers. Here are a few links that will enlighten those that think oil is the only answer we have. For as much money that has been spent on oil research, drilling and refining we could have already implemented some or all of the solutions below:
Hydrogen Generator Can be built from parts at your local hardware store and is scalable.
Solar Power Takes up a lot of space but has a zero carbon footprint. Energy can be stored for use at night.
Wind Energy Also takes up a lot of space but supplies clean energy.
Fuel Cell Technology Combined with a Hydrogen Generator provides clean “burn free” technology and probably the best option available.
Electric Car No smog, no oil other than lubrication of parts.
Hydrogen Engine Can run on Hydrogen with very little pollution, combined with a Hydrogen generator this system would fuel itself as long as the user provides clean water.
More inventors need to talk with their community of inventors in order to combine technologies and make even better systems that are clean and efficient. The solutions are out there but it seems that the majority of people on the planet have tunnel vision and are not exploring everything available. There are answers and the time is now for action.
