Whenever I’m in a store, I’m always scouting out sales. I rarely buy sheets when they’re not on sale, and I always wait for a better deal on pots and pans before laying down my credit card. However, I recently learned that there are best times of the year to buy certain categories of products, no regular store searching required! Here’s a rundown of product sales by month to help you the next time you need a comforter or wok.
January to March
Sports equipment is a great buy during this time period. A plethora of New Year’s resolutions also inspires retailers to markdown equipment after the first month of sales. New models of bicycles and outdoor gear typically are in stock in February and March, so older models of everything from hiking gear to sneakers are on sale.
Chilly temperatures mean almost no one is buying air conditioners during this time period, driving down both the demand and price of these expensive units. Boat show season is from January to March, so if you want a shiny dinghy, look for a good sale at a show at that time. January also is a good time to buy home theater equipment.
If you’re engaged, a winter wedding can save you big bucks. Reception halls are cheaper, as are other wedding services. Linens also are traditionally cheaper at this time of the year due to “white sales.”
April to June
After spring cleaning your home, refresh your kitchen by getting great deals on kitchen tools, cookware and small appliances. These items go on sale just in time to pick up a few things for the summertime weddings that you’ll be attending.
If you’re in the market for a new house, spring is the time to join the real estate game. Home inventory is high at the start of the buying season, which means prices are competitive.
Vacuum cleaners also are a great buy in April and May, as most new models debut in June and prices start to drop on older models to make way for a spring cleaning of your home and stores’ inventories.
July and August
As the summer wanes, back-to-school supplies of all kinds are on sale. Laptops, home computers and peripherals see the best sales at this time of the year. July also is great for furniture sales, as new models come out in August.
September to December
If you’re in need of summer clothes, September is the time to get them. Car dealerships also introduce great sales during this month for the previous year’s model. September and October are great times to get sales on last year’s models of major appliances, such as ovens and clothes dryers.
October is a good time to get deals at garden centers and nurseries as gardens dry up for the winter. Any storeable landscaping supplies you can buy during this time will save you cash.
Toys are on sale in October and November as the holidays heat up. Games and puzzles are often on sale during this time, which is perfect for anyone buying gifts for an entire family. Wedding dresses are a good buy in November and December, and you can get good buys on flour and other baking products during this time.
No matter what month of the winter, gas grill prices are at their best in the winter. No one wants to barbecue in the winter unless they live in a warm climate.
