This summer, take advantage of the type of business that invites you to get out of the hot kitchen and into cool refreshment, relaxation, and fun: Restaurants! Here are three of the best restaurants in Santa Barbara available for your summertime dining pleasure.
Los Arroyos Mexican Restaurant. For a quick take-out before you head off on a day trip or for a relaxing sit-down summer meal with friends after a sports game, Los Arroyos is the place to go. The restaurant sits at a convenient location: one half block off the city’s main corridor, within walking distance of all the popular summertime destinations, and across the street from a public parking lot. The atmosphere is casual cool so that, whether you’ve come from a day at the beach, a visit to the art gallery, or even a symphony performance — all located within blocks of the eatery — you will feel welcome and at ease. The restaurant has consistently received readers’ choice awards from the local newspapers for Best Mexican Food and Best Salsa. Be sure to try Mama’s Salad, Arroyos Enchiladas, and the popular Burrito Mojado. Located at 14 W. Figueroa St., Los Arroyos is open Mon-Thur 11am-9:30pm; Fri-Sat 9am-10pm; Sunday 9am-8:30pm. Prices: $5.95-$13.95.
El Paseo Restaurant. The El Paseo Restaurant serves lunch and dinner in an adobe plaza built in 1826 that is a Santa Barbara landmark. Summer dining at the El Paseo boasts an open roof and a casual atmosphere. A block off the main street, the restaurant is far enough away from the shopping hubbub to have a unique atmosphere of its own. El Paseo is host to many of the city’s annual Fiesta activities, so summer meals might include mariachis serenading you as guacamole is prepared fresh at your table. Tortillas are made onsite and delivered warm with your meal. Favorite entrees include the Enchiladas de Filet Mignon served with a black bean risotto, and the restaurant’s famous Caesar Salad. Located at 813 Anacapa Street, El Paseo is open Tues-Thur 4pm-10pm; Fri-Sat, 11:30am-10:30pm; Sunday 10:30am-9pm. Prices: $8-$23.
Brophy Brothers. A seafood meal at a restaurant that overlooks the Santa Barbara harbor is the perfect way to end a summer day — or begin a summer night. Brophy Brothers is set on the breakwater and offers beautiful views of the Pacific, city foothills, and the glorious mountain range. Watch the sunset while dining on the best clam chowder in town along with its sidekick of crusty sourdough bread, sitting either inside or out, and all in a casual setting. The place is a local favorite, so expect long lines: Brophy Brothers has been awarded Best Seafood Restaurant and Best Clam Chowder by reader’s choice polls for the past 22 years. Freshly-caught halibut, salmon, and sea bass grace the menu. Shellfish fans will delight in the famous clam bar. Located at 119 Harbor Way, the restaurant is open Sun-Thurs 11am-10pm; Fri-Sat 10am-11pm. Prices: $9-$20.
All three restaurants are locally owned, which ensures a cool, fresh, and fun summer dining experience. Read my article on why you should visit Santa Barbara this summer for more information on how to enjoy what this wonderful city has to offer.
