There are many home remedies for an upset stomach but they vary depending on the initial problem. Stomach problems can range from a simple stomachache, a stomach virus, heartburn, or majorly unbearable indigestion. None of these stomach problems are fun and many people are not sure how to calm their upset stomachs without over the counter remedies. I have a home collection of remedies that have always worked for the majority of my family’s stomach problems including my husband’s major heartburn and acid reflux problems.
Heartburn Remedies and Acid Indigestion
My husband suffers from severe heartburn and indigestion and a few remedies that he uses to simply ease the pain are eating mustard (which tends to cool the burning sensation), drinking milk or eating cheese (both which contain calcium, which is the main ingredient in Tums) and another that works wonders for myself is drinking dill pickle juice. If the heartburn/indigestion gets to bad you can always take an antacid, but many people would rather not or cannot take these types of medications and the home remedies are all they have to turn to. There are many more remedies that many people have suggested work as well but these are my own home remedies that can really help.
Remedies For Upset Stomach or Stomach Flu
Every once in a while we all get the stomach flu or have an occasional stomach problem and just cannot bear to hold in the wrong foods. All of us would love a quick fix to this problem, but unfortunately many times there is not a quick fix but there are ways to ease your stomach pain.
I have many different remedies for easing stomach pain and for preventing the WORST of stomach pain… poisoning. I have toddlers and my worst fear is my toddlers getting into something toxic and not having a way to treat them quickly. So, the way I keep myself worry-free is I keep activated charcoal around the house. Activated charcoal is amazing for any poisoning and pretty much cleans the body of toxins by absorbing them and then coming out in your next bowel movement instead of entering your system.
As for the home remedies for stomach pain and flu the best remedy believe it or not is simply ginger ale and crackers or dry toast. I know everyone knows this remedy but it is truly the best. If you have the stomach flu make sure to drink lots of water and Gatorade to replace lost electrolytes and fluids. Banana’s are also easy on the stomach and can help ease the achy empty feeling in your stomach when you have the flu and this is a great method I use when my kids get sick because they love bananas and they help with the stomach pain they may have.
Really there is not much you can do to actually get rid of stomach pain completely, but these methods can ease the pain. Hopefully the methods help you but no matter what, when you are feeling badly make sure to get plenty of rest because sleep heals your body and works better than any method!
