Any parent with young children is always on the lookout for safe new places to take their kids, let them play and ‘get their energy out.’ Unfortunately, not every parent can afford their own swingsets or deluxe playground equipment. Besides the obvious play areas at local elementary schools, here is a list of the best public children’s playgrounds around Trumbull County, Ohio:
Perkins Park Children’s Playground: Perkins Dr. NW, Warren, OH – Recently built, the fantastic Perkins Park children’s playground is colorful, new and full of interesting play-things not seen in other typical play areas. Mostly geared for the stature of younger children, there is a lot for young kids to do at this playground, including slides, swings and climbing areas. Parents will also feel at ease knowing there is soft padding underneath the entire playground. Next to a pavilion, with plenty of parking, there are even benches right next to the play areas for watchful parents. However, the playground is big enough for adults to climb up on the equipment with their children as well. Perkins Park truly has one of the best public playgrounds in Trumbull County.
Imagination Station: Warren-Meadville Road, Cortland, OH – On the edge of both Bazetta and Cortland, and bordering (within walking distance of) Mosquito Lake, Imagination Station is located in Bazetta Township Park. Roughly fifteen years old, Imagination Station is a wooden playground structure, full of slides, swings, and nooks and crannies to run, hide and crawl in. Imagination Station is big enough for parents to participate and play in, or adults can sit nearby under a picnic pavilion. Parents should keep in mind that Imagination Station is meant for older children, and some areas may be difficult for toddlers to play in. However, this playground still is one of the best of Trumbull County, and definitely a routine destination for elementary school and scouting field trips.
Tiger Town: Howland Township Park, Howland, OH – Undoubtedly one of the best public playgrounds in Trumbull County, Tiger Town is a ‘themed’ wooden play area and child’s fantasyland. Appearing as both a huge wooden castle, and as a contained ‘city’ (based off of Howland), Tiger Town boasts a play ‘town’, with a school, and other buildings for children to climb through. Children will love the slides, ladders, hidden niches and large number of swings. Tiger Town also contains a sand play area out front. Parents will love the security of this playground, which is all-enclosed, and contains numerous spots and vantage points for parents to sit and watch their children.
Newton Falls Community Playground: Newton Falls City Park, West Quarry Street, Newton Falls, OH – The best part about this playground area, located right next to the community softball/baseball fields, is that there are two separate play areas in one. There is one large area with playground equipment built just for preschool children and older toddlers, separated from a whole other playground area built for older children. There is a great advantage to this as parents can feel secure knowing that their very little ones can run around and play safely without being caught underfoot in a crowd of teenagers or older, more aggressive children. It is also convenient to have the playgrounds right next to the ball fields, as parents watching an older child’s game can also attend to their younger child at the same time.
Steven’s Park Playground: (Waddell Park area) Niles, OH – Located in a major city park complex, there are a handful of parks in this area, with soccer fields, baseball fields, cabins, a skating pond, even the city of Niles’ community pool and wellness center. The Steven’s Park playground is itself a newer, nicely built, clean, well-maintained, out-in-the-open public play area; definitely worth visiting!
If you are a parent living in Trumbull County, Ohio, you are fortunate to have so many available safe public playgrounds for your children to play in. Please be aware that there are dozens of public play areas in the county to visit – many of them well-maintained, fun and safe. The four areas listed above, however, are truly some of the best!
