Waxing, is a centuries-old technique of hair removal, that originated in Ancient Egypt. This procedure involves smearing a sticky substance onto the skin, applying small strips of special cloth or paper, and then removing it quickly, pulling out the hair at the follicle. This ancient method has recently grown in popularity primarily because of the bikini. But women are also finding out it leaves you hair-free much longer than most other methods of hair removal.
Women who have had this procedure done regularly, say all they feel is some minor discomfort. However, your first few wax treatments can be pretty painful. If you are in it for the long-haul and not just for a quick fix, you will notice that the pain from this procedure does become much less after several treatments. You can also take a pain reliever 30-45 minutes before your waxing.

Brazilian or String Bikini Wax– will remove all hair except for a 2″ or so, strip of hair above the labia.
Thong wax- same as Brazilian but only a 1/2″ to 1″ strip of hair is left.
Hollywood or Sphynx Waxing- sometimes referred to as “The Full Monty”, which removes everything from front to back, including between the cheeks.
Not all salons and day spas perform all types of waxing, nor are all methods referred to by the same names, so be sure to ask questions before making an appointment. If you are having a traditional bikini wax, the salon will typically give you a paper thong to wear during the procedure. If you are opting for anything else, you will probably be required to be panty-less.
For waxing to work, hair will needs to be at least 1/4″ long but no longer than 1/2″ long. So, you will need to wait for it to grow out at least that long in between waxes. This factor alone, is what keeps some women from waxing their legs and underarms. Results from waxing are different for everyone, but you will usually remain hair and stubble-free, anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks. The hair will often grow back a lot thinner and softer as well.
