When I thought about putting together a list of Eminem’s best songs I questioned whether I should choose a set number of songs like a top ten list or try to rank them in some way. Honestly I think choosing ten songs is too difficult and ranking them would require some sort of criteria for what makes one greater than the other. What I want to do with this article is provide a best of Eminem for people who may not be fans already or not haven’t been exposed to different facets of his catalog. So while I’m not going to tell you what is the best Eminem song ever I will provide you with what I think the top Eminem songs are off of every album except for Infinite (because I haven’t listened to it) and Recovery because I already made that list, see: Best Recovery Songs: Six Best Eminem Recovery Songs There are a lot of songs on here so if I left off your favorite that’s a real shame but I won’t shed any tears over it. Okay let’s get into the best Eminem songs.
Slim Shady LP
Guilty Conscience– Three verses and three situations in which Eminem and Dr. Dre play good and bad sides of someone’s consciousness. It’s funny, violent, and just a little bit gross but that’s what is great about Em. Shoot them both Grady where’s your gun at?
Brain Damage– Goes into how he was bullied at school and by his mother at home. Basically an over the top fantasy about getting beat down until he gets to the point of seeking revenge on those that wronged him. I love when the principal helps the bully stomp him in the bathroom instead of putting an end to the beating.
Role Model- I’ve got genital warts and it burns when I pee. Don’t you wanna grow up to be just like me?
97 Bonnie and Clyde- 97 Bonnie and Clyde is an extremely dark song in which Eminem raps about killing his wife while his daughter is along to help dispose of the body. 1-2-3 Whee!
My Fault- Em goes to a party and meets a girl who eats all his mushrooms. This should turn out well. Right?
Bad Meets Evil- Eminem teams up with Royce da 5’9 on this track and it is one of my favorite songs off the Slim Shady LP. Both of them rip this track. I used to be a loud mouth. Remember me? I’m the one who burned your house down. Well I’m out now.
Rock Bottom- What a great song to listen to when you’ve had enough of all of life’s nonsense and hardship.
If I Had- This is a very underrated song where we learn all of the things that Eminem is tired of.
Marshall Mathers LP
Kill You-You don’t wanna f*ck with Shady. Why?
Stan- A crazy concept song and I’ve seen it on lists for the greatest hip hop songs of all time.
The Way I Am- Who is the real Eminem is he the same guy the media or his fans make him out to be?
Marshall Mathers- Eminem just goes in on everybody including his mother, XXL magazine, and ICP.
Criminal- Stop taking his lyrics so damn seriously. If you don’t get it after listening to this song perhaps you should listen to another genre.
I’m Back- That’s why they call me Slim Shady…I’m back, I’m back.
Kim- This one is so crazy and just plain vicious. I believe it also got him sued for defamation.
Cleaning Out My Closet- Another ‘mom’ song but it’s still great.
Til I Collapse- Who doesn’t get pumped up while listening to this song? It goes Reggie, Jay-Z, 2Pac, and Biggie. Andre from Outkast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then Me.
Without Me- For most of his albums he came out with a catchy single that wasn’t too serious and mostly consisted of jokes. I think Without Me and My Name Is were the best of the bunch.
Sing For the Moment- The beat and hook sample Aerosmith and Eminem always seems to put out really good work when there is a rock sample involved.
Yellow Brick Road
Like Toy Soldiers
Mockingbird- A song for his daughter and lyrically his emotions come through.
One Shot 2 Shot- I love this song it’s a D12 collaboration about a night at the club gone wrong with obligatory gun fight included.
8 Mile Soundtrack
Lose Yourself- Man did this ever get airplay on every sports related highlight reel. Ok so I listen to it while at the gym too, it is a really good song.
8 Mile Road- I really like Eminem on this song but I still think the G-Unit Remix is better because Lloyd Banks went to work on this beat.
Beautiful- This was my favorite song on the album. It samples a rock song for the hook along with Eminem singing some of it. Just all around awesome.
3 A.M. – This was one of his singles off of this album and his flow is pretty sick on this.
Stay Wide Awake
My Mom- My mom loved Valium and lots of drugs. That’s why I am why I am cuz I’m my mom!
Stir Crazy– This was a guest feature on the Mad Rapper’s 1999 album which coincidentally also included How to Rob by 50 Cent who would later sign to Shady/Aftermath. Eminem’s entire last verse is hilarious especially the part about Michael Jackson in little boys drawers shopping in toy stores.
If I Get Locked Up Tonight-I’m sick of being judged, f*ck it let me see your judge I’ll confess to every murder I committed since three years old.
Renegade- One of the most talked about rap verses ever was spit by Eminem on this feature with Jay-Z and with good reason. Eminem absolutely levels his critics and would be referenced on Nas’ diss song towards Jay-Z Ether as Jay getting murdered on his own song. Now Jay-Z didn’t come with weak verses at all but Eminem’s first one was insane.
So there’s my list for Eminem’s best songs you can agree or disagree with it. I know that there are more songs that could be included on a list such as this but I don’t want to write out every song that he’s ever made or had an appearance on but if you included every song on here in an Eminem mix I don’t think too many people would be mad at it.
