What to give to that new parent?
Baby showers yielded diapers, a plethora of cute outfits, and all the other basic necessities baby would need. While you could opt for a traditional baby gift that will soon be forgotten, pooped in, or outgrown, a humorous gift like the ones below will be remembered for years to come!
Child Rearing Roulette
I can remember those nights that our kids were up almost hourly during the night as babies. We’d often take turns on who got up, but by 3 or 4 in the morning, we were out for some serious sleep. The body had shut down, the feet failed to move, and the brain refused to cooperate. Exhaustion had set in.
Shoulder nudge from husband. “Honey, it’s your turn.”
“Seriously honey, I thought it was your turn.” Shoulder nudge back to him.
Harder shoulder nudge from husband. “I have work in the morning. Can you please make the crying stop?”
Shoulder nudges back and forth for several minutes until finally one of us gives in. The wheel of responsibility (also known as child rearing roulette) would’ve solved all of those problems. Simply spin the spinner and it lands on either Mom or Dad ending the arguments and “you do it’s” for diaper changes, nighttime feedings, and bath time.
It also comes with a humorous book on safe baby handling tips–perfect for new parents.
This guide and wheel will run you $25 and is available at UncommonGoods.com.
Daddy Diaper Tool Belt
Seriously, my husband needed this. I worked 12 hour shifts at the hospital, and he often took care of my daughter while I was gone. I would have to go to Costco and make sure we were stocked up on wipes before I worked. Because one time I made the mistake of watching him try to change a messy diaper. He would pull a large wad of wipes from the container (we’re talking 1/6-1/4 of the package), wipe down from the top to the bottom of the rear end once, grab another wad of wipes and do it again. One diaper change equaled a package of wipes.
The Daddy Diaper Tool Belt would have been a blessing at that moment. Equipped with all the gloves, clothespins, diapers, wipes, tongs and sanitizers to help Dad out, plus an instructional changing guide to show him how to change that messy diaper.
The Diaper Duty Apron available at Bama Babies and Birthdays leaves no stone unturned when it comes to diaper changes. It also includes goggles, pacifiers, lotions, Bourdeaux’s butt cream, and more. I like the look of this one. It has a much more ‘manly’ and rugged look to it, and has a lot more items to it. However, the price of $49.99 for all the extra items might be a little too overwhelming for the first time diaper changing Dad.
The Daddy Diaper Duty Tool Belt includes most of the above, but has a much lower price and a more “cutesy” baby look to it. A manlier man might have a much harder time wearing it. It does offer a little more personalization. You can pick the color and gender of your Diaper Duty Tool Belt baby. And the cost is only $29.99. This tool belt is available from BabyShowerStuff.com.
