If you suffer from occasional bouts of insomnia, the solution could be as near as your local health food store or supermarket. Traditional and natural remedies that promise to ease stress, promote relaxation and give you a good night’s sleep are so easy to come by these days that it can be hard to choose. Herbal teas are easy to use and generally safe, but which brand of herbal tea is best for you? As a chronic insomniac, I have tried them all. Here are my favorite herbal teas for a good night’s sleep.
Yogi Kava Stress Relief Herbal Tea for a nice and mellow good night’s sleep.
Kava originated in the islands of the South Pacific, where it has long been a traditional herbal remedy to ease stress, calm the mind and promote sleep. As you might expect from the name, the main ingredient in Yogi Kava Stress Relief herbal tea is kava, and it is a good choice for those days when stress prevents you from getting a good night’s sleep. If you do not care for the taste of kava, you still might want to give Kava Stress Relief herbal tea a try; Yogi has added other ingredients designed to make its herbal tea taste better and other ingredients which sooth the stomach and promote sleep.
All in all, it is a pretty yummy cup of herbal tea: there is carob pod for a mild chocolate flavor, and the slight bitterness it brings is sweetened with stevia leaf, so you might want to taste it before you add honey. Other ingredients include cinnamon, sarsaparilla root, ginger root and cordamom seed, all of which promote sleep by easing stress and promoting relaxation. Yogi Kava Stress Relief herbal tea is an especially good choice when you have insomnia because stress has tied your stomach in knots.

Yogi Bedtime Tea features traditional sleep promoting herbs like chamomile and valerian.
I really do like the Yogi herbal tea line, and I’ve worked my way through most of it. Yogi Bedtime Tea is not my favorite tasting herbal tea, but it might be yours. Yogi Bedtime Tea is packed with ingredients that are well known for promoting rest, relaxation and a good night’s sleep: chamomile flowers, valerian root, passion flower, licorice root, spearmint leaf, skullcap leaf, cardamom seed, cinnamon bark, St. Johns wort, raspberry leaf, rose hip and lavender flower. Yogi Bedtime Tea has a more fruity, flowery taste than Yogi Kava Stress Relief herbal tea. Like Yogi’s kava tea, Yogi Bedtime Tea is sweetened with stevia leaf, so you might want to taste it before adding honey or agave nectar.
Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime herbal tea for a comforting good night’s sleep.
Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime herbal tea is the first herbal tea I ever tried– a long, long time ago. I still drink it, and for good reason. Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime is a classic herbal tea, and an effective traditional remedy for occasional insomnia. Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime herbal tea is made with Chamomile, spearmint, West Indian lemongrass, tilia flowers, blackberry leaves, orange blossoms, hawthorn and rosebuds. Just looking at the familiar Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime bear on the box, complete with his cozy nightshirt and cap, made me yawn a little bit just now– and it’s not even lunchtime yet.
Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime herbal tea is fine for mild insomnia, but for more frequent or severe bouts with insomnia, try Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Extra. Sleepytime Extra is the same tea as above– it even has the same loveable Sleepytime bear– but with valerian root, which makes it a more effective alternative remedy for insomnia caused by stress. If stress and worry are giving you sleepness nights, try Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Extra herbal tea to get a good night’s sleep.
