Best Five Pet Spiders

by itchy fish

Is your cat’s meow just boring? Does your dog make your hair stand on end? Are you pooped from your parakeets constant squawking? Why not get a pet spider? Pet spiders are low maintenance, fascinating to watch, and many types of pet spiders can kill you! If Fido’s never turned and attacked you, just wait until your black widow wakes you in the night. If fright is no object, or you have a kindred spirit with these web-slingers, consider these top five pet spiders for your new terrarium.

Best Pet Spiders: Grass Spiders: While you may not have grass growing in your bedroom, the grass spiders are a perfect type to keep in your home. A very fast spider by comparison this eight-eyed wonder will build a myriad of webs when kept in captivity.

Best Pet Spiders: Fishing Spiders: If water’s more your game, you can’t go wrong with the fishing spider. These spiders glide like air across the top of water to catch their prey, so if you’re doing your own hunting and capturing legwork don’t forget this fact during pursuit.

Best Pet Spiders: Jumping Spiders: The jumping spider is a much smaller type of arachnid and they also move quite quickly. If your storage space is large enough you can watch these spiders to amazing leaps. Another fact about the jumping spider is its striking color which is indeed impressive.

Best Pet Spiders: Wolf Spiders: You’d know this spider if you saw it; with its hairy body and fun eye configuration the wolf spider still acts alone. If you can get one of these guys into captivity they won’t do too much. Wolf Spiders tend to live their lives alone and unless you’re letting the wolf spider hunt, they probably won’t do too much else.

Best Pet Spiders: Tarantulas: Far and away the most popular pet spider, the tarantula has more than 900 species covering most of the world. While the name tarantula elicits frightening thoughts, the fact is that the tarantula is not generally harmful to human beings. They bite but unless you’ve got a strong allergic aversion to them, they probably won’t hurt you too much. Tarantulas also spin silk and their bodies can be quite large. Tarantulas in the United States are largely brown spiders and they can be found in pet stores easily.

Best Pet Spiders: Conclusion: If you’re looking to freak out your wife or girlfriend, show up with a pet spider. When handling pet spiders make sure you are taking the proper safety precautions and always make sure you handle and return your spider the way you found it. The worst thing would be if you had let the spiders go free and had to find them in your own house!
