Having three daughters, I have had more than the usual amount of Disney Princess merchandise in my home. I am not necessarily a fan of pink and purple pastel accessories, myself, but I do have to admit even I get that little tug when I walk past a display with all the pretty backpacks and lunch bags, all bedecked in bows and rhinestones and pearls. Something about looking at these sweet book bags brings me back to the days when I loved playing dress-up, and it was the greatest thrill to put on an old pair of Mom’s high heels or use a little pink lipstick on my lips and cheeks so I could feel grown-up.
This sampling of Disney Princess backpacks includes several different options for elementary girls. All are full sized child backpacks, and not mini-backpacks, so she’ll be able to fit in her notebooks and folders, her pencil case and shoes, her gym clothes and her library book. We’ve had bags this size before, and found them ideal for girls in preschool or early elementary grades. The bags are not so large as to overwhelm the little bodies, but big enough that even a lunch bag will often fit right inside the backpack. They satisfy a little girl’s preference, and meet Mom’s requirements for functionality too.
Princess and the Frog Backpack
Our kids loved The Princess and the Frog and I liked that it showed a girl of African descent as the princess. This sophisticated looking backpack features Princess Tiana on its front panel, and judging from the recent success of the movie it will be a big hit in classrooms all over! Little girls may not care about much else once they see the ornate design of the bag, but parents will be happy to hear that it is made from sturdy materials, and it is big enough to carry all a little girl’s school gear. It has a zippered pocket on the front, and two quite roomy side pockets to help organize smaller items too.
Little Mermaid Backpack Ensemble
As I already mentioned, I am not a huge fan of pastels, especially if they make the merchandise look old and washed out. I was absolutely thrilled to see a backpack featuring Princess Ariel on a black background! This elegant backpack has front and side compartments for extra storage. It also comes with a sports water bottle to go in the side mesh pocket, and a contrasting pink pencil case that won’t be likely to go missing in the bottom of the pack when your girl has her schoolwork and belongings thrown in. A matching black lunch bag is also available, for those who like to have a complete set.
Disney Princess Backpack with Detachable Lunch Bag
This lovely backpack has a pale blue background as a change from the pinks and purples. It features Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Belle from The Beauty and the Beast. The bag has no additional compartments, but it is reinforced at the sides and back with canvas and it has padded shoulder straps. The pink lunch bag is insulated, and attaches to the front of the backpack so your little girl will have just one bag to carry back and forth to school.
