Our youngest daughter seems to have had the worst time out of all 3 children with diaper rash. It seems that many new foods introduced, while she loves to eat them, don’t agree with her digestion. We often see the results in her diaper – which often leads to irritation and diaper rash.
When I put on our shopping list that we needed a new tube of Desitin, our preferred brand, my husband came home instead with a tube of A&D Medicated Diaper Rash With Zinc Oxide/Aloe, saying that the Desitin was not on the shelves. He knew we needed/preferred something with Zinc Oxide, and that this version of A&D had this ingredient.
We’ve used A&D ointment before, her pediatrician recommended it for another bout we had as a soothing and protection agent. I noticed quickly that this cream had a few additional ingredients than the Desitin did, and that the overall percentage of Zinc Oxide was less than Desitin.
I wasn’t sure that the A&D Medicated Diaper Rash With Zinc Oxide/Aloe would work.
It came in a cardboard box with product information. Inside the box is a 4 oz tube with flip top lid. The tube is very soft and squishy, and the cap is made out of a hard plastic, with the cap and opening being small.
From the company:
“A&D Medicated Diaper Rash Cream Effectively treats and prevents diaper rash.
Soothes red, irritated skin.
Contains vitamins A and D.
Allows skin to heal naturally.”
Generally all diaper creams are used the same way, and this product is no exception. Clean the area, allow to dry, and apply the cream liberally.
Quickly we noticed that this white cream was a little different than what we were used to using. The A&D Medicated Diaper Rash With Zinc Oxide/Aloe was a bit creamier and easy to spread. It really was a little more lotiony and less dense than the Desitin. Additionally, it had some smell to it, but it wasn’t as strong and noticeable as the Desitin is.
We’ve used this new cream until the tube was empty and I have to say it performs well. It’s the same price as the Desitin, and very effective at clearing up her bottom quickly. I like how easy it is to spread and that she doesn’t now smell like she’s just been smeared with a diaper cream treatment. I’d have to say at this point the A&D Medicated Diaper Rash With Zinc Oxide/Aloe works equally well on general diaper rashes and clears it up well. We also seem to prefer it slightly, for the reasons mentioned here, making it our new favorite.
