Starcraft: The Original
This article will discuss about one of the most popular PC games of its time.
The popular RTS (Abbreviated as Real Time Strategy) Multiplayer PC game was released on March 31st, 1998 and has been going strong with its intricated yet simple gameplays. It is an even bigger success in South Korea that led to televised gameplays of each online multiplayer gameplays played by professional gamers in Korea.
I will be talking about a brief synopsis on this game and then explaining about my review on this game.
In the Starcraft universe (Its more of Blizzard Universe), there are 3 races you can play as and are key players of the storymode campaign in the game. These races are: Terran, Protoss, and Zerg
The Terran race consists of humans that are living on colonies in the various planets of that system. They are what I term as medium wuality and medium quantity (basically means they are balanced). The reason is the time it takes to produce troops, develop technologies, and constructing buildings. These are factors into making a productive base to go on defensive/offensive lines.
The Zerg Race are beings that are controlled by one single entity called the Overmind. It consumes planet life forces and assimilates it for their own to become a huge collective of one entity. They are termed in my way as quantity over quality because there production of troops are doubled compared to the other two races. In some cases you can “zerg” rush the enemy bases before they have a chance to build proper bases. They are considered the main antagonist of the game in the campaign mode that threatens the other two races.
The Protoss race are of a superior alien specieis that possess advanced technologies. They are termed as quality over quantity in my definition because when you compare the troops, buildings, and vehicles, they don’t get destroyed easily compared to the other two races. The protoss are ideally the main protagonists with the combined help of the terran race.
My review of this game is that it is a must play for people who are interested in RTS(Real Time Strategy) games. There are people with various genres like MMORPGs and FPS (Massive multiplayer online RPG, first person shooters) but this is one of the games you should really try. The storyline and plot that offers in this game should give you interests that only few games can give. The multiplayer option was superb back in the days before newer generations of online gaming popped up. There were various options in the multiplayer settings
Melee – This is the main online playing field for all the player on player battles. Once you get to try it out, you’ll easily learn the strategies of many veteran players and how they build their bases in strategic points.
Capture the Flag – Basically capturing the flag of the opposing team although you do have a tendency to die from them.
Use Map Settings – Best one for me since i use to hang around in these areas. Basically a user owned map setting with various scenarios that can be from Resident Evil scenarios to Tower Defense. Its more of “randomness” and at the same time fun
So before you try out the new Starcraft II game that will be released on Tuesday July 27th, For those of you who are like me that are a story/plot kind of guy in games, I’d suggest getting the first starcraft game to connect the current story in Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty.
