I have been writing for Associated Content now for more than four years. In that time I have achieved more than 339,000 page views. I recently made clout 10, which is the highest clout an AC contributor can achieve on the site. I would say that I am a successful Associated Content contributor and can give sage advice to anyone thinking about or just starting out as a contributor for the AC site.
Associated Content has grown over the years and I have seen many changes occur on the site. As many readers have discovered the site offers a wide range of topics that contain information written by writers of varying expertise, writing style and ability. Most writers will over time develop better skills regarding content and grammar. Those who remain with Associated Content long enough to achieve Clout 10 are usually those who love to write and enjoy the benefits of achieving success in the art of writing. These are usually the writers who have something to share that are of value to readers and to Associated Content.
The mere fact that I have achieved Clout 10 does not by any means signify that I have finally arrived as an authority on writing. In fact, there is much I have yet to learn about the craft. It is important to note that one does not achieve clout 10 by chance. It does take a certain measure of determination, ability and knowledge about the art of writing. There are several key ingredients that must be in place if a writer is to achieve to be a successful Associated Content contributor and these include having the ability to write articles that are keyword rich in title and content, are evergreen (not specific to one date), contain information that attract a large readership, and can write several articles a day on a regular basis.
Formula for becoming a Successful Associated Content Contributor at AC:
Create a large body of quality articles (450 to 1000 minimum)
Create a loyal following of fans within and outside of AC
Use keywords properly so that your articles receive page views in the first month as well as maintaining a minimum of 70 page views each month thereafter. Not every article you write will maintain number every month, but you should have the majority of them that can do this amount.
Take advantage of social networking tools like Digg, as well as by putting an RSS feed on your blogs and WebPages. Click on the words, “RSS feed” to be taken to a site that has an excellent definition of what an RSS feed is and why you should be using this tool to promote your articles.
Become a featured contributor in a category you write in often (multiple categories if desired and your quality does not suffer). I am a featured contributor in the fertility and pregnancy category here on AC because I have given birth 3 times, have a passion for reading about and writing about the topic of pregnancy and have authored a book on the topic of pregnancy called, “Conversations with Laura about Pregnancy”. These are the qualities that AC looks for when accepting applications to become a featured contributor on the site.
Your articles should be grammatically correct so use spell and grammar checks before submitting them to AC.
Informative articles written on topics that is in demand.
****Beware**** Do not just write multiple articles a day in order to increase your article count on Associated Content. If you chose to write 12+ articles a day and these articles do NOT perform well (page views) AC staff will review your account and suspend you from being paid, because your articles are not performing well. In other words you can’t just throw up garbage articles that do not make AC any money at all and still expect to be able to continue to write for them.
Every AC contributor is an investment by the owners of Associated Content and if an investment does not perform well AC will let them go. This is sound business strategy for any company that expects to stay in business.
Quality writing not just quantity of writing is what will allow a contributor to earn the money they desire from AC.
How does Associated Content staff determine if your writing translates to you being a business asset instead of a liability?
AC gauges quality of writing by the number of page views your articles achieve each month. You can see this count on your account page in the far right corner box marked, “Total Page Views” and on your “Content” tab you can view your Estimated Performance Views each period as well as the “All-Time Views” each article you have written has received since publication date.
If a AC contributor can write 6 to 8 quality articles per day they can expect to over time bring in a comfortable living. This is good news for any stay-at-home mom, dad or for college students looking to earn money writing for Associated Content.
If a writer is seeking to be a Successful Associated Content Contributor and earning a fulltime income writing for AC, these contributors need to be able to write a minimum of 1000 evergreen articles that have at minimum 100 views each month. Keep in mind that not all articles written will achieve this number of views but in order to earn a fulltime income you need to have 1000 out of all the articles that you have written that are capable of achieving 100 views each month.
How do contributors for Associated Content achieve this high page view count?
One way to increase your page views is to become more active in the AC forum. The purpose of doing this is to become better known among other AC contributors. AC contributors really like to spread the PV love around so when you click on their articles and leave comments they will then click on your articles and read your articles leaving comments as well which of course will in turn increase your page views.
Another way to increase your page views and become successful on AC is to contribute to the discussions, especially the active topics in the AC forum and to answer questions when you are able to do so intelligently. When you do answer a question in the AC forum be sure to provide a link to one of your articles if it is relevant to the discussion.
You can also increase your page views by joining yahoo groups that are AC oriented such as “PromoteYourACArticles and AC-Friends. Join twitter lists that are writer or AC oriented. When you join in and actively contribute to these types of groups it serves two purposes – the first being that you can have more eyeballs and page views for your articles and the second being that you can gather current information about AC as well as pass on any information you have been able to ascertain yourself to others.
Social network site promotion and using forums and lists will help to add to your page views but the bulk of your page views will come from visitors clicking on your article links from Google and other search engine searches. This is why it is so important to learn how to use effective keyword placement in your article title and in the body of your article.
You do not need to go to far to find good keyword tools because AC has many tools right on the site to help contributors promote articles. To find these tools click on “Community” and then click on “Promotional Tools” from this menu you can locate how to auto-post to Facebook, Twitter, and WordPress. You will see how to join AC on MySpace so that you can get updates from AC, promote your articles and share ideas with other AC contributors. Make full use of the AC subscribers list. Make sure you invite your friends, family and other writers you meet online to become a subscriber to your AC account so they can be notified when you publish new articles. Subscribe to other AC contributor’s pages and help them promote their articles, most AC contributors will reciprocate the favor and read your articles too, which will of course increase your page views.
At the bottom of the promotional tools page on AC you will find a section marked, “Social bookmarking sites”. When you are on one of your articles you will see a “Share” link to Digg, Delicious, and Netscape. These links make it easy for you to promote your content on AC to those outside of AC. You should be promoting every article you publish by using these “sharing” links that AC provides for you.
Right under that section is a section called, “StumbleUpon.com”. This is a social bookmarking site that I have used for years. It is essential that you properly use keywords when using your articles on this site because it is the keywords that bring users of StumbleUpon to your content.
Yahoo! Answers and Meetup.com are two more ways of promoting your AC content online. When using these and other promotional avenues make sure you read the policies carefully about how to use the site to promote your content.
Go back up to the top of the AC page and you will see another link “RSS & Widgets”. When you click on this link you will be taken to a page where AC has made it very easy for you to set up RSS feeds and Widgets on your blogs and websites. I have an AC widget on my writer site. Go ahead and click on the words “writer site” in the previous sentence to see this widget in action.
Now that you have read this article, you should be able to start your journey so that someday soon you too will be a successful Associated Content contributor because you have learned how to effectively promote your AC articles and have applied these lessons faithfully on a consistent basis. I know I will continue to improve my article quality, work on improving my grammar and continue to take full advantage of the many opportunities to promote the articles that I have written and have been published here on Associated Content. Achieving clout 10 is not the end, for me, it is just the beginning of my success story here on AC.
