Famous quote from this season is “I came here to find my everything, but I didn’t even know what my everything was until I met Roberto”. Wow. All girls hope to find their “everything”, and apparently Ali found hers in Roberto Martinez. Last night’s show of The Bachelorette and After The Final Rose was just unbelievably beautiful and emotional. I felt it had to be Roberto in the end because of the incredible chemistry there was between him and Ali all along. I wanted to believe in that, and I am happy I wasn’t wrong.
Tonight, Ali had her two final men, Roberto and Chris, meet her family in Bora Bora. I have to mention that the scenery there was gorgeous. I have a feeling Bora Bora will be getting many more tourists in the coming months. Of course, I won’t be one of them because I’m sure it requires a boatload of money to vacation there, but it doesn’t hurt to fantasize, right? Let’s get back to the subject matter at hand.
After both Roberto and Chris met her family, Ali was suppose to go on one more date with each man. Her first date was with Roberto, and it could not have been more romantic. I mean, seriously. Raining on the beach while they’re hugging? Even the producers couldn’t have provided that one. Then that night when Roberto and Ali were laying down with their arms around each other, I couldn’t imagine her doing that exact same thing the next night with Chris. That is the moment when I just knew, for certainty, that Roberto would be the last man standing.
I have to give kudos to Ali. I know I’ve bashed her a time or two in the past, but what she did tonight regarding Chris was a wonderful gesture. She knew that her and Roberto cemented their love on that last date and she knew, in her heart, she was going to choose Roberto. And she did not want to put Chris through the anguish of arriving in a limo the next day, having the ring ready at his fingertips, and then having Ali tell him that she didn’t want him and wanted somebody else. The way Ali went to visit Chris and told him exactly what was going on, really impressed me. She was sparing his feelings. A classy move, Ali. I wasn’t always sure you had it in you, but you did.
It was still hard to watch Ali’s family get to know both Roberto and Chris and know that one of these great guys were going to be leaving Bora Bora heartbroken. I thought it was interesting that Ali’s Dad seemed to be rooting for Roberto, but Ali’s sister and brother seemed to be talking up Chris more. As for Ali’s Mom, she was smitten with Roberto the second he started dancing with her. Of course.
Honestly, I think Chris will be asked to be the next Bachelor. At least he should be. He is someone who we would certainly be rooting for. I dare you to tell me you didn’t grab for a kleenex last night with all the talk of his late mother and then that rainbow appearing. Could they pull on our heartstrings any more than that? C’mon, we’re emotionally involved already, you don’t need to extract sobs from us now, do you? Geez.
For a girl who has an adorable sporty, sexy style about her, Ali sure looked breathtaking in her gold gown while waiting for Roberto to arrive. I don’t know why they made him walk up all those stairs to reach Ali since the guy was already sweating and with a heart that was pounding fast with nerves. When they smiled at each other, that undeniable chemistry was right there. Roberto looked very pleased when Ali told him that he was the only man there tonight. And we all held our breaths in unison with Ali while he was talking to her before he gave her the ring. When he finally asked her to marry him, I don’t know about you, but yet another kleenex was ripped out of the box sitting next to me on the couch in order to wipe my eyes. Us women love this stuff, don’t we?
I know it’s against the odds to believe that Roberto and Ali will have the happily ever after that Trista and Ryan Sutter found with each other. But I do believe. My impression of Ali is that she has been burned by men in relationships before, and while watching her during The Bachelorette, it was almost like she felt she didn’t deserve a man as beautiful and wonderful and sexy as Roberto. When girls have had bad experiences in the dating world, they tend to forget their own worth and how much they have to offer someone. With Roberto loving her unconditionally, maybe Ali can finally believe in herself once again.
All us hopeless romantics will be watching these two lovebirds in the coming weeks and we’re hoping to see their happy faces plastered in all the tabloids while shouting their love from the rooftops. Happy endings do happen sometimes, and perhaps this is one of those times.
