Aveeno Nourish & Shine Shampoo for Very Shiny Hair!

by itchyfish

The shampoo that I have been using for the past week is made by Aveeno, and it is just one variety in their Active Naturals line. I received a sample packet of Aveeno Nourish and Shine Shampoo and matching conditioner, and the packets contain enough shampoo for a dozen washes, plenty of product to be able to evaluate it in a review.

The full sized bottles of the Aveeno Nourish & Shine Shampoo contain 10.5 ounces, and it claims to contain Nourishing Wheat Complex and Palm Extract to help dry damaged hair, make even the dullest hair shiny, and giving it “vibrant life”.

The shampoo itself is a thick cream color, with a pleasant flowery scent. I found that it only took a small, dime sized amount to wash my medium short length hair. I find that rubbing the shampoo between my palms helps me to distribute it evenly through my tresses. This shampoo quickly makes a full head of lather, but when it comes time to rinse it out of the hair, it rinses out completely – leaving no residue behind and giving my hair that squeaky clean feel, without feeling like my hair has been stripped (like a clarifying shampoo would).

After washing and rinsing, I then used the conditioner, and my hair was still squeaky clean after applying the conditioner, which is a little unusual in my opinion.

I then towel dried my hair, applied a volumizing spray, and blow dried my hair with my round brush. I knew immediately, as soon as I started to style my hair while drying it, that this shampoo made my hair feel different. It didn’t want to style for me as easily as other volumizing shampoo. When I was done styling with my hot iron, I was left a bit disappointed in the overall look because my bangs looked much flatter and my hair didn’t have the body it usually has.

However, this shampoo did leave my hair incredibly soft and shiny! When I grabbed my hand mirror and looked at the back of my head, I was honestly amazed by the shine in my hair. This formula truly does what it claims to do as far as giving the hair shine, but I would not say that it gave my hair “vibrant life”.

Aveeno makes three other types of Active Naturals shampoo: Moisturize & Nourish, Nourish & Revitalize, and Nourish & Volumize. I am anxious to see what the volumizing shampoo will do for me. As for the Nourish & Shine, based on my experience I would recommend this to people who have straight hair, or hair that does not need to be styled or curled.

The retail price for a 10.5 ounce bottle of Aveeno Nourish & Shine is $6.99.
