Finding 10 reasons to get excited about the next installment of the Twilight Saga, Eclipse is like asking a nature photographer to name 10 beautiful things to take pictures of? How could you begin with a world full of nature? With Eclipse, we get a world full of excitement, the number one reason I am excited to see Eclipse is the beloved characters we have come to know and love and we are practically dying to see again on screen (pun intended). Edward, Bella, Emmett, Rosalie, Alice, Jasper, Charlie, Carlisle, Esme and maybe even Jacob a little. It’s fun to see what they are wearing, and it has even been fun to see Jacob grow up and bulk up right before our eyes.
Reason number two is I am looking forward to the special effects that a larger budget movie can do better than it did with Twilight. Not that special effects makes the movie better in all circumstances. I for one love Twilight a million times more than New Moon, which I liked, but I am guessing it’s the storyline in general that made that decision in my mind, since I am Team Edward. But I like the huge flying jump from rock to rock that Victoria showed off in the Eclipse Trailer, the amazing wolf and vampire clash in the trailer and the riveting images of the giant wolves against the small humans and vampires. It all looks tantalizing!
Reason number three, although I am not a wolf fan, in Eclipse we will get to feel a bit more grateful for the wolves and perhaps feel a tug of camaraderie somewhere in this movie with them. We will be more than emotionally entertained I think in this one, just like in the book there seemed to be a lot plot building in Eclipse, reading the book I felt like I was on the edge of my seat and nervous for the characters as to what was about to happen. The buildup almost never stops, even after it’s over, because as you know Breaking Dawn has events that Eclipse will need to lay the ground work for also. Which means the climactic ending in this one is just a prelude to more excitement coming up in the last installment (hopefully two movies) Breaking Dawn, which is now set for release on November 18, 2011.
Reason number four is the new director. I think it was very wise to change directors for each movie, at first I was concerned about it, especially because men began directing after Catherine Hardwicke, I was not sure that a man would keep the romance a focal point and not miss the point entirely by making it all action, with wolves and vampires. But I think New Moon was not redirected and did in fact keep the love between them the focal point. I love some of the scenes that New Moon featured so I am excited to see what the latest directorial point of view will do with Eclipse.
Reason five is that I am interested in seeing how closely the movie follows the book similar to the previous two movies. One thing my friends and I have been bothered by in the previews is the fact that the previews seem to paint a love triangle picture. When in the book it never was a love triangle, she always chose Edward, her heart never wavered in its overall loyalty and love for Edward, even in the most confused state, the most distracted by Jacobs attempts and manipulation, she was always firm in this fact. Yet in the previews, it’s almost as if we are not sure who Bella will choose? It’s frustrating for us devout Edward Fans, but I figure they have to sell tickets to the Jacob fans too and I know Taylor Lautner has done wonders being the face of Jacob, he is so difficult not to like as an actor and even as his character. Jacob is much more charming than in the book, but especially lacking and almost absent is Edward’s sarcastic wit and charming sense of humor in the movies.
Reason number six is the music. I have some really great songs on my phone that came from the Twilight Saga Series, including Iron & Wine’s Flightless Bird, Suppermassive Black Hole by Muse, Full Moon by the Black Ghosts, and my favorite song on New Moon, Possibility by Lykey Li. I am really looking forward to what music loving Stephenie has hopefully helped put together on this.
Reason number seven is I love the fun and excitement of midnight showings across the country. It is a fun feeling knowing that thousands of people are lined up, camped out, and just as excited as me to go and support our favorite author, Stephenie Meyer and Summit Entertainment. New Moon was pretty crazy to see with over 3,000 people lined up outside, some since noon.
Reason number 8 is that I miss the whole story, once you read this book series, you are disappointed that it’s over, most of us that loved it, savored Breaking Dawn and tried to slow down reading it, because we could already anticipate the lack of Twilight in our lives, the let down and realization that it was over, our glorious four book run, five if you include Midnight Sun.
Reason nine is to show all the naysayers and twilight haters that New Moon was not a fluke. We will be there in masses and my guess is we will make more history in opening night numbers than New Moon, simply because Eclipse will be opening on a Summer weeknight, unlike New Moon which opened on a school night, therefore the younger kids and teens may be able to convince their parents to allow them to go.
Last and certainly not least, reason number ten is Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart (aka “Robsten”). This is the first film that we know of, (wink wink) that they have been officially together during filming at some point at least, so I am interested in seeing if their chemistry is different or better, more of a connection?
Whatever your reasons are if you love Twilight you will be there at the midnight showing because of two simple things, Edward and Bella. (or Jacob and Bella whatever it is you prefer) and tickets are going on sale through Fandango.com and movietickets.com beginning on May 14th at 12:01 am. You can buy tickets here on Fandango.com.
