Apple’s iMac has truly been ahead of its time as far as the technology put into the machines. Long before floppy drives became obsolete, the iMac was a computer that relied on downloads from the Apple website to enhance your home computing experience as well as
My wife and I are looking into getting a Macintosh computer eventually and an iMac seems to be a great choice. We hesitated before because the technology behind the old Macs were truly visionary and the rest of the world hadn’t quite caught up yet to the cloud computing elements that make the iMac even more attractive of a purchase.
Now that there are websites with subscriptions and downloads galore it seems now is the perfect time for our family to at least try a Macintosh. My son loves making homemade videos of family movies, sports videos, and music. My daughter loves sending her boyfriend little video notes with her webcam when they are apart from each other and still want to stay in touch.
With all of the multimedia and video applications for the iMac it seems that playing games and watching movies will be taken to an art form. Back when iMacs first started they were the old and bulky CRT screens but now with flat panel technology the new desktop from Apple is sleek as it is stylish with wireless keyboards and mice.
The space saved by this computer is amazing. The crux of the computer is a 21.5 inch or 27 inch screen backed up with tons of memory and amazing graphics. Even better is there are many environmentally friendly features included with this computer such as recyclable aluminum parts and an Energy Star rating for power consumption.
The iMac is also equipped with four USB 2.0 ports for hooking up all kinds of gadgets like video cameras, digital cameras, and headphones to enhance your entire Apple computing experience. My wife can’t wait to get surround sound headphones to watch her movies in silence while the kids are off at summer camp or school.
The mouse movements are fluid and the keyboard is a marvel to behold. With such clarity on the screen, I’m looking forward to leaning back in my comfy chair and writing articles from several feet away.
There are two things my wife and I cringe when we look into getting an iMac. First is the lack of a disk drive but that is something that we can get used to. As I stated earlier, we can understand that the technology embedded in Macintosh computers is fantastic and ahead of its time. All we had to do was to wait for the rest of the tech world to catch up to Apple’s forward thinking.
The second thing that may hinder us from getting a Macintosh computer is the price. Yes, we already knew that an iMac would be twice as much or more than a basic desktop computer from other companies. We may wait until the Christmas shopping season to see if they come down in price.
The computer looks great. For entertainment value we may sell some of our televisions just to get an iMac since our family’s spare time is taken up less by television and more by computers. The iMac may well be a family Christmas gift in December when we invest in a 27 inch model.
At our local Mac store in Springfield we saw a demo of the new iMac and the gizmos that can be added to it and we were impressed by everything except the price. If you can afford an iMac, it is definitely a computer to look into for home computing needs.
