What happened to Americans for America? What happened to proud to be an American and Made in America? Today’s defeat of an extension of jobless benefits for the unemployed is another blow for Americans under heavy stress. All three points about America and Americans seem to have taken a backseat to politicians who do NOT support their fellow Americans.
Republican? Democrat? What happened to our representatives who worry more about a rising deficit, their political offices, and vote to send jobs away, foreign aid to countries at the expense of Americans who don’t have jobs or money to live an honest decent life?
Anger is growing in America toward those politicians who spend more time posturing than sitting down and developing concrete solutions to American needs today. Perhaps in the past, politicians could hide in ivory towers, but today with the Internet and scrutiny by citizens, actions, inactions and attitudes are carefully monitored.
Our politicians are well paid to represent the interests of the American people. How many Americans are aware that rank-and-file members of our legislature are paid $174,000 per year? Party leaders are paid $193,400. Compare this to a person on unemployment at $300 a week that equals $15,600 per year, if there are no interruptions. Congressional members have a federal pension and full health benefits paid by tax dollars. How many unemployed or underemployed Americans have full health benefits or after this recession, retirement funds?
Did you know that in 2008 about two-thirds of the Senate was millionaires? In the House of Representatives, 240 had a net worth of over one million dollars? Has the homegrown dedicated people-oriented politicians of the past been replaced by a group of elitists who have never known how to explain to a child there is no food or home? Do our politicians understand the fear, stress, frustration of Americans who do not have jobs, health care or homes? They spend millions on campaigns to represent us, but will not spend millions to help us.
What happened to investing in America and putting Americans first? These politicians, who block efforts to help Americans create jobs, provide healthcare, resolve immigration problems or equitable payment for doctors forget that investments in America and Americans will reap long term benefits. The money provided for unemployment benefits such as Tier 5 does not leave America, but continue to keep people working, communities thriving and hoping for better times.
Remember America is OUR America and silent Americans must speak up to defend the American Dream and build a strong America once more. We must find a fair and equitable solution to our problems and ALL agree on one direction. We don’t need to save the world until we can save America. American politicians will either work with us, work against us, but ultimately WE vote them in and WE can remove them. Remember 2010 is an election year for many politicians; the time has come to decide which politicians represent Americans and America.
