You have to wonder how some people become so self-deluded. Case in point, sexy Russian spy Anna Chapman, who seemed to think after she was kicked out of the US, the United Kingdom would allow her to keep her British passport and move to London instead. Wrong. The British Home Office announced today Anna Chapman’s British passport has been revoked and they’re likely to ban her from traveling to the UK soon too. So where will she end up next?
Anna Chapman, if you remember, is the sexy red-headed spy half of the US male population was going crazy over when her photo showed up in the tabloids. Obviously having seen one too many James Bond movies, many American men seemed to think Anna Chapman could become “the spy who loved me” or at least “the spy I fantasize about when I’m having sex with my wife”. There must have been an awful lot of disappointed American men when Chapman was booted out of the US and sent back to Russia.
In the UK too, Anna Chapman has been all over the British tabloid newspapers as, weirdly, she was a British as well as an American citizen. She married a British man, Alex Chapman, in 2002 and procured a UK passport and British citizenship soon afterward. So, a fair few British guys must have had their dreams destroyed when the Home Office declared today that Chapman is absolutely not welcome in the UK.
Odd that Anna Chapman thought she could just use her British citizenship to move to the UK after being found guilty of spying for the Russians in America. Sure, unlike her American citizenship, her British citizenship was gained legally but the UK, like many other countries, will happily take it away from anyone who’s found doing something extremely illegal and spying for Russia would certainly fit into that definition.
As it stands at the moment, Anna Chapman, or Anna Kushchenko as it looks like her real name is, was deported back to Russia last week along with 10 other admitted Russian spies. The Russian government announced each spy would be given a stipend of $2,000 a month for the rest of their lives but, as Moscow is one of the world’s most expensive cities, that’s not likely to go too far and a woman like Anna Chapman probably expects a lot more out of life.
Don’t be surprised though if you haven’t heard the last of Anna Chapman. She’s only 28 and strikes me as being an extremely resourceful woman. My guess is, one way or the other, Anna Chapman will likely end up living somewhere in Europe in the not too distant future. Because let’s face it, just because the UK doesn’t want her, there’ll be many other European countries that will.
