Alexis Cohen 25, a former American Idol contestant in Seasons 7&8, was killed on July 25, 2009, by a hit- and -run driver who was intoxicated and fleeing from police for an earlier car accident when he struck Cohen and left the scene. Two passersby found her in the road around 5 a.m. and called 911. His name was Daniel Bark and he was arrested on drunken driving charges the next day on July 26th.
Cohen was found approx. 350 feet from her car. The reason she had left her car is unknown. She was pronounced dead two hours later at Community Medical Center in Toms River, New Jersey. The autopsy showed Cohen died from head, chest, and abdomen injuries sustained when Bark’s car struck her.
As of Thursday July 09, 2010, Bark has received a four count indictment by a grand jury including death by car, aggravated manslaughter, fleeing from police and intentionally leaving the scene of an accident. He remains in jail on a $150,000 bond in N.J.
If you don’t remember Alexis Cohen, she was a gutsy blonde (also dubbed Glitter girl) who auditioned in Idol seasons 7 & 8 and was rejected both times by the judges. She is most remembered for her dramatic raving reaction to Simon Cowell when she was not put through to Hollywood. For the Season 7 audition Cohen sang Jefferson Airplane’s “Somebody to Love.” Her performance failed to impress the judges.
After leaving the stage she flipped birds at the camera and began her rejection rants at Simon. Cohen told Cowell he could “Kiss her a__!” She also said “If I could legally moon you, I would.” Cohen was a spunky gal not afraid to say what she felt. She continued to flip birds to the camera and ranted and raved until she left the building and was still yelling she would be victorious and that she would become an actress and for Simon to “Take it, take it, take it!” I kind of felt sorry for her, she seemed troubled.

If convicted in the death of Alexis Cohen, Daniel Bark could serve 10-15 years. Hopefully, he will be found guilty. He drove while intoxicated, struck and killed Alexis Cohen, 25 and left her like an animal on the side of the road to die. Surely Bark won’t escape a conviction in this case unless the justice system fails the victim and her family mercilessly. Let’s hope this doesn’t happen.
