America’s Got Talent is at it again and the premiere show of season 5 did not disappoint with the show’s usual variety of the talented, the not so talented and the just plain weird.
Returning judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and host Nick Cannon are joined this season by new judge Howie Mandel who replaced David Hasselhoff. Howie brings his own comedic talents to the show and is quite entertaining himself. It took him awhile to get used to the buzzer, often setting it off accidentally.
Looking in Los Angeles for talent found many hopefuls, some with and some without a talented bone in their body. There was the usual variety of singers, dancers, circus acts and some acts that we didn’t really know what their talent was supposed to be.
Highlights from the show included:
Future Funk – Little Bailey “B Boy Bailrok” Munoz, a 9 year old, and 5 year old “Baby Boogaloo” Brown started off the show busting a move. These little dancers had everyone cheering from the second they stepped out on stage.
Haspop – The 32 year old Frenchman who was a dancer and a mime and was just pretty darn good.
The New Directions Choir – Audience members and some of us at home were tearing up after hearing their inspirational and powerful a capella version of “Old Man River”. Their stories of being previous homeless veterans brought the tears as well.
Maricar – Was a favorite of the male judges in her skin-tight, black-leather dominatrix outfit including a Catwoman mask and whip. We all wondered just what exactly her talent was (she said painting) when she sexily stroked paint on 3 pieces of Plexiglas while gyrating her butt. When she was finished and put the 3 pieces of Plexiglas together, it made quite an impressive picture. See she said she had talent.
Michael Grimm – A 30 year old from Mississippi strummed his guitar and sang “You Don’t Know Me”. He is actually a very good singer and wants to win to help out his Grandmother who raised him and lost her home in Hurricane Katrina.
Hannibal Means – An odd sort of fellow with an odder sort of accent sang “Hallelujah” while playing the keyboard. His bright yellow cape is what really set him off.
Evan Berst – This 72 year old man showed us that he’s got the moves on the dance floor. Host Nick Cannon told him that he needed a partner and joined him dancing on stage after his performance.
Ronith – A 58 year old impersonator from India who did impressions of Marlon Brando, Clint Eastwood, Sean Connery and and Arnold Schwarzenegger all in the same voice. Not the best impersonator in the world, but very entertaining.
Who knows what tonight’s show of America’s Got Talent will bring, as you think you’ve seen it all and then you find out you haven’t. One thing’s for sure and that is, you will be thoroughly entertained.
