Certainly, the top 4 will have to sing twice next week, right? Will we have duets like last year? All I known, is we have rarely gotten a memorable performance on any season’s movie night. Seeing as this is one of the worst season’s ever, this is looking to be one of the worst nights of this terrible season. Most of the songs they have to choose from are lame, cheesy, from the 80s and have been done before on this show. Can any of the contestants left pull a moment for themselves from the Itunes provided list? You can view the full list here at MJ’s Big Blog.
Like I said, this year we can see the list of songs the Idols get to choose from thanks to Itunes, which is both interesting and the kiss of death. Why would I want to hear any of them sing any of these songs? For me, it makes me want to skip this week all together. With Crystal Bowersox, Casey James, Michael Lynche, and Lee Dewyze left; we can guarantee there will be both pitchiness and guitars. It seems Michael or Crystal will have the pimp spot, since Lee just had it this week and Casey had it the week before Siobhan took the plunge. If having the last spot was not enough to save Siobhan, I am not sure it makes much of a difference this season.
Let’s get to the songs. Arguably, the only great songs on this list are Bryan Adam’s “Everything I Do,” and the classics “Moon River,” “Over the Rainbow,” and “Summertime.” Considering the latter three songs have been some of the best performances this show has seen, I would not reccomend them to any of our current contestants. Unless Michael Lynche really wants to do “Moon River.” I could live with that. I don’t know if he could bring anything to it that Anwar didn’t in season 4, but he certainly could try. Other than that, we have some really terrible options like a High School Musical song and LeeAnn Rimes, “Can’t Fight the Moonlight.” You know your in trouble when there are THREE Kenny Loggins songs to choose from. God help us all. I don’t think these four will choose any of those, but what will they choose?
Crystal is the only girl left, leaving the pick of the litter to her, if she wants to stick with a female song choice. Carly Simon’s “Let the Riverrun” seems like an obvious choice, but after some forgettable song choices, maybe she needs to go big with Tina Turner’s “We Don’t Need Another Hero.” I would be shocked if she picked something like Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On,” but it would be nice to hear her hit some of those big sustained notes, just to prove she can. Somehow, I doubt she will go in that direction, but that only really leaves Irene Cara’s “Flashdance,” which I think she’d never choose, or “One Night Only” from Dreamgirls. She could go for “Take My Breath Away” by Berlin. Man, the song list is just so sparse. No wonder there are so many terrible song choices made on this show, they are all choosing the lesser of all the evils.
This leaves the boys. I think all three of them will be fighting over Seal’s “Kiss From a Rose” and the two Bryan Adam’s songs. In fact, just the three of them going with these three song choices is really the best bet. Singing the old songs right after big band week just seems redundant. If I could choose for them, I would go with Lee singing “Kiss From a Rose,” Casey singing “Everything I Do,” and Michael singing “Have you Really Loved a Woman.” I think doing any songs from Alladin, Lion King, or Tarzan will just be too cheesy. Cartoon choices were even cheesy on Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken on season two. That leaves “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls, “Mrs. Robinson” by Simon and Garfunkel, and “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. I could see any of the three guys going in this direction, especially if they are in fact singing two songs. They would be the three best options to go with the choices I already gave them.
Let’s hope they aren’t doing duets, because there really aren’t any great guy duets in this bunch. Crystal could just duet three times to “A Whole New World,” “Endless Love,” and “Can You Feel the Love tonight,” but I doubt they will do that. Even if they all pick the best songs in the bunch, it is still looking to be quite a terrible evening. I think it’s any one’s game into the top three. It seems like Crystal and Lee might have two of the spots on lock down, but the top four is when we usually have the shocking boot? Only Crystal would be shocking at this point. Let’s all go to the movies to find out! Remember you can check out the full list of songs at MJs Big Blog provided by Itunes!
