American Idol’s Season Nine Finale turned into a unique concert ménage. Musicians and singers from a vast spectrum of music performed on the stage with the season’s nine American Idol contestant’s finalists. Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze also shared the stage with their fellow top contestants of season nine. A large number of past American Idol winners also shared the stage. There were also many verbal and video tributes to Simon Cowell on his last night as an American Idol judge. Ryan Seacrest let the audience know the final vote count between Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze was a close one.
As always fans for each American finalist were gathered in their perspective states of Ohio and Illinois. Kris Allen, the last season’s American Idol, shared the news with Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze that each would receive a 2011 Ford Fiesta, a major sponsor of American Idol.
The American Idol top contestants opened the show with Alice Cooper’s, “School’s Out for Summer.” Alice Cooper took the stage and joined in. The Bee Gee’s remaining two brothers sang, “How Deep Is Your Love,” along with the top male American Idol season nine contestants.

Of course there were the past contestant failures of American Idol, the ones we enjoyed laughing at and cringing along with. “Pants on the Ground,” was a song from this year’s tryouts that somehow caught on like wildfire, just like William Hung’s song from a previous American Idol tryout. Of course William Hung was there to join in with Larry Platt, the singer of, “Pants on the Ground.”
The beautiful Janet Jackson with a new sleeker shorter hairstyle graced the stage with her talent, adding to this American Idol Season Nine concert ménage.
Joe Cocker, a raspy voice living legend, joined Lee and Crystal to sing an awesome version of, “I’ll Get By With A Little Help From My Friends.”
Paula Abdul came back to give a stirring humorous tribute to Simon Cowell. American Idol past contestants joined in to sing a tribute song to Simon, including such names as, Fantasia, Ruben Studdard, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, among others. Simon Cowell himself took the stage to say his good-byes, showing a rare emotional side.
Lee DeWyze, a paint salesman, was announced the official winner of American Idol Season Nine, in the last final moments. Lee DeWyze tearfully ended this American Idol finale concert ménage singing the crowning American Idol’s song, “Beautiful Day.” From the early days of American Idol’s season nine, Crystal Bowersox seemed to be the front runner, but Lee DeWyze started to stir up attention with his recent song performances.
American Idol’s season nine finale was a unique concert ménage, following a unique season that had changes in judges and contestants. The next question unanswered for now is, “Who will fill Simon Cowell’s position as judge for American Idol season ten?”
