Now that American Idol is down to the final four, the gloves are off and it’s anyone’s game. Though odds makers have Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze at even odds to win the covetedtitle, it’s still important that they perform their best. Tonight’s theme was songs from the movies with Jamie Foxx as their mentor. To see the current odds for the final four, click here. Here is a recap of tonight’s American Idol performances.
American Idol Final 4 Performance Evaluations
American Idol Lee DeWyze
Lee DeWyze was up first tonight and chose “Kiss from a Rose” as his song selection. Lee has been my pick for some time now to win American Idol but his performance was definitely not up to par with his incredible showing last week. The judges were all in agreement that he chose the wrong song. Kara said having the arrangement the way it was caused Lee to be all over the place. She did acknowledge that Lee was indeed a great singer.
American Idol Michael Lynche
Michael Lynche was up next. He chose “Will You Be There” to perform this week. Big Mike gave a pretty convincing performance. Simon could tell he gave it his all but Randy and Kara were not blown away. Kara said she prefers when Mike gives her goosebumps from his performances. Ellen thought Mike had a good performance but he was becoming predictable.
American Idol Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze duet
Crystal and Lee performed “Falling Slowly” as their duet. The final four were paired off to perform two duets tonight on American Idol. Casey and Mike will perform together as well. Though I’m not a fan of the group numbers or even the duets, Crystal and Lee blew it out of the water. The judges were all in total agreement that this was a fantastic performance. Ellen likened it to the Captain and Tennile, though I don’t know if Crystal or Lee would consider that a compliment.
American Idol Casey James
Choosing a Simon and Garfunkel tune, Casey James sang “Mrs. Robinson.” Casey played the mandolin while singing the classic song. Though Randy, Ellen and Kara thought Casey did a decent job with the vocals though not over the top like he needed. Simon said “To be honest with you, personally I didn’t think the song or the performance had the substance for you this week, I thought it was a little bit lazy and you could have made more of an impact. More strange song choices tonight.”
American Idol Crystal Bowersox
Crystal Bowersox selected a song from the movie Caddyshack. Singing “I’m All Right,” Crystal had a standout performance putting her back in the American Idol game after a couple of lackluster weeks. Ellen stated “That performance just got Crystalized, you took that song and made it better.” Crystal should be a shoe in for the final three.
American Idol Michael Lynche and Casey James duet
Mike and Casey closed out tonight’s show with “Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman” and did a nice job of blending well together. The judges all felt the duets were much stronger than the solos.
American Idol results show airs Wednesday at 9/8c on Fox.
