Wednesday nights are always stressful on the American Idol stage as the contestants and audience stay in bracing positions until the name of the week’s unfortunate cast-off is announced. That time came last night for Aaron Kelly, as his bid for the Idol crown finally ground to a halt with his elimination from the competition. It seemed inevitable that this would be his final week. The 17-year-old teen angel manage to hang on week after week amidst a field of mostly sleepy songsters. His youthful appeal seemed to work in his favor.
Aaron was directed to stand next to Big Mike Lynche by Ryan Seacrest, who informed the audience and viewers that this was the bottom group. When Aaron’s name was announced, it was a good thing Big Mike was there to comfort him, whispering words of encouragement that seem to keep our teen angel together for his swan song. Indeed, a touching moment.
Here’s a clip of Aaron on the FOX Channel in Chicago.
Jamie Foxx Mentors
Multi-talented Jamie Foxx returns as mentor to the final four, reports the LA Times, a gig he is already familiar with from Season 8. The actor, comedian, and musician, (bringing more levity on the set to pick up from last week’s comedian, Harry Connick, Jr.), is a triple-threat like Connick. He’s an Oscar, Grammy, and Golden Globe winner, whose album, “Unpredictable” has sold 1.98 million copies, going certified double Platinum. He starred in two of my favorite flicks: “Dreamgirls” and “Miami Vice.” He’s in good company with a few heavy hitters: Foxx and Al Pacino are the only two men in cinematography history to garner two Oscar nominations for two different movies in the same year.
Foxx also shares an accolade with the “Chairman of the Board,” Frank Sinatra, being one of four artists to win an acting Oscar and have a number one album. The club also includes Bing Crosby and Barbra Streisand. Foxx has collaborated with Kanye West, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Ne-Yo, Mary J. Blige, and is an avid country music lover, recording a song with Rascal Flatts.

Aaron Headed To Nashville
According to USA Today, Aaron is planning to continue his dream of pursuing music and talks of a move to the country music city of Nashville. The Pennsylvania native has always been comfortable crooning country and is setting his sights on the city that can make that happen.
Like other Idols who have proceeded him, alumni Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, and Danny Gokey, Aaron feels he’ll fit right into the place where he attempted once before to make his mark on the country music scene. This time, he’ll have American Idol experience on his resume and performing under his belt. That should open a few doors for our teen angel. Aaron sang the Rascal Flatts tune, “Here Comes Goodbye” during his run, as he reveals like Jamie Foxx, he is a fan of their music.
Hits from the movies will be the new theme this week. There will be a lot to choose from and we know that our final four will have to pick selections carefully, as there is no room for bad choices. It’s crunch time and everything is on the line. For a list of the songs they will be performing from, click here, or go to iTunes.
