It’s a new week and there are plenty of happenings going on with our Idols, past and present. One news story that has kept Americans concerned is the flooding in Nashville the weekend of May 1st. Come June 22, People magazine reports that Carrie Underwood will be taking part in a benefit organized by country couple Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. Carrie will be joined by LeAnn Rimes, Miley Cyrus, Miranda Lambert, Brooks and Dunn, and Taylor Swift, a few of the performers scheduled to take part in Nashville Rising at the Bridgestone Arena. The telethon has already raised $1.7 million in aid and relief.
Cinco de mayo
Andrew Garcia was out meeting and greeting fans in his city of Moreno Valley, Calif., Saturday, for the Cinco de mayo celebration. He was there to support his girlfriend and she performed, instead, as he smiled, signed autographs, and fielded questions from the audience. Inlandsocal.com quoted Andrew as saying, “It was probably one of the most craziest experiences I’ve had in my life.” You haven’t seen the last of Andrew. Don’t forget he’ll be on tour with the Idols this summer, as he exclaimed to his fans, “You guys got me on the tour.”
Take Me Out to the Ballgame
Crystal has a gig lined up already singing the national anthem for her home state of Ohio’s Toledo Mudhens. Uh, huh, Reality TV World says the minor league baseball team has requested Miss Crystal B. to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” on or before this Friday’s game. She has also been invited to sing during the seventh-inning traditional sing-along, “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” in the Mudhen’s game against the Indianapolis Indians.
Crystal B. has a couple of tee shirts designed for her, LA Times reports. Trinity United Church of Christ in her home town of Elliston, (25 miles from Toledo), has designed a tee, the same one her dad and family members wear to the American Idol show. Not to be outdone, Jacob Parr, a former alum from her high school, Toledo School of the Arts, has his own tee shirt design with Bowersox in mind. Part of the profits from sales of the shirts will be donated to help with juvenile diabetes research. To see a picture of the tee Crystal’s dad wears, click here.

The Final Four made American Idol history this past Friday, according to the LA Times, taking part in a scheduled morning press conference. It’s about time they did this. Casey James, Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox, and Michael Lynche got to answer questions about different topics, such as:
Jamie Foxx as mentor: Big Mike commented,”I think Jamie’s going to be incredible.”
On recording an album: Crystal B said, “I can hear all four of us having hit songs on the radio and I think we’re all going to be really successful after the show.”
On the kind of album: Lee states, “To put together a good, solid rock album would be cool.” Casey adds, “As far as the album goes, I know that it sounds crazy, but I’d like to think of a mix between country, rock, blues, and pop all mixed in the same bowl and stir it up a little and whatever happens, happens because that’s who I am musically.”
Doesn’t sound so crazy, Casey, and we’ll be watching and waiting for music from all this season’s American Idols.

Theme Nights and New Show Format
According to mercurynews.com, the ratings for Sinatra night plummeted, again. Not too surprising. It’s a generational thing. The discussion has come up that perhaps theme night needs revamping. An over-haul. One suggestion-the contestants need more range of material. Instead of every week focusing on a songbook by a single artist, why not do a mix of genres, like, pop/rock, night. R&B, blues, and soul night. Then, allow the Idols to choose any song they like in that genre. Or, decades night. Do songs from the eighties. The nineties. More choices, more fun! Any ideas?
OK, now that we are down to four finalists in the competition, the format changes. Not only will our four Idols be singing their solo numbers, but they will be paired up, to sing duets. Who is with who? Good guess. They aren’t saying until the show Tuesday night. I could see Crystal paired with all the guys. She can sing just about anything.
As for this week’s theme night, well, I hope the ratings don’t drop any further. Jamie Foxx was on the show last season. How about a fresh face? They did songs from the movies last year. Could they come up with a new theme? Something different? And, I looked at the list, (click here to see it), and it is oh, so limiting in the choice department. Imagine hearing “A Whole New World” from “Aladdin?” Or, better yet, “My Heart Will Go On” from the movie, Titanic? Ugh! I saw Titanic seven times! And, I think I own every single Disney animated movie that came out. Do I know “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King? Just ask my kids. Talk about corny. Simon is going to have a field day with that word come performance night. Good luck, Idols!
Two great bands will be performing for elimination night on May 12–Daughtry and Bon Jovi. Former Idol Chris and his band will be rocking center stage and Jersey’s in the house with Bon Jovi. The show starts 9/8c time. Catch you Tuesday night for songs from the cinema. Don’t forget the popcorn!
“Undo It”-Carrie Underwood
“Terrified”-Katharine McPhee with Zachary Levi
“Life After You”-Daughtry
