Lee DeWyze- “The Boxer”
Lee reprised his song from Inspirational week and the judges gave mixed reviews. Randy Jackson told him to “Pick it up…get some more energy going”, but Ellen DeGeneres said, “Lee, I couldn’t be prouder if I birthed you myself.” Kara DioGuardi told him he needed to “punch harder”.
Crystal Bowersox -“Me and Bobby McGee”
Crystal gave an energetic performance of a song she sang during Billboard #1’s week and Kara told her ‘You have fire in your belly tonight”. Simon said, “This is you back on your best- we’ve got a competition tonight!”

Lee DeWyze- “Everybody Hurts”
Lee sang an acceptable version of this REM song, but the judges didn’t rave over it. Randy did acknowledge that he could “feel the Lee I love by the end”. Simon said he could tell Lee was nervous.
Crystal Bowersox “Black Velvet”
Crystal belted out a changed up arrangement on this song, which prompted Randy to proclaim, “MamaSox is in it to win it!” Ellen joked about Crystal’s outfits, saying, “The wardrobe changes….it’s like a Cher concert in here”. Simon Cowell said he’s so sick of that song he’s “almost allergic to it” but that Crystal “absolutely nailed it”.

Lee DeWyze- ” Beautiful Day”
Lee delivered a rather bland version of this U2 song and Kara said he got “swallowed up” in the song. But she also acknowledged that he has “one of the most commercial voices of the season”. Simon shrugged that Lee made the most of the song. Lee told his fans that he will be singing for the rest of his life and that he loves his fans very much. Almost sounded like a concession speech.
Crystal Bowersox “Up to the Mountain”
Crystal gave one of the best performances of the season as her final. Ellen told her she was in a league all her own, and Simon, giving his final Idol critique ever, said it was “by far the best performance and song of the night’. His final words were, “That was outstanding”. Crystal told her fans she is entirely grateful and is “ready for everything”.
